SEW BLOG — Oct 6 — comScore reported and MySpace apparently confirmed that the average age of its users is going up. More than 50% of its users in August were over 35.

Mark Brooks: Teens and Twenty-somethings are on MySpace en masse. But, this TV eluding generation will search out new (niche and emerging) social networking 'hang-outs' that fit their needs better, as their needs become more specific and sophisticated

There is a big difference between USERS of MySpace and VISITORS to MySpace. It seems that the users are the teens, but there are also the parents who visit MySpace to check up on their kids. I highly doubt that the 50% who are 35+ are users, but merely visitors, which is a big difference. Check out Fred Stutzman’s research (google him) for more info on the media’s erroneous reporting.
It has already been confirmed by myspace.
I wonder how many parents are out there with fake accounts trying to entice their kids to give up far too much personal info just to teach them a lesson?
@Markus
And I’m supposed to believe MySpace?
There’s a number of issues:
1. How does MySpace know the ages of its users? They can’t verify age information.
2. MySpace has a financial incentive to give their advertisers the demographic data that will make MySpace the most money.
For the above two reasons MySpace cannot be trusted.
