In order to attract Social Networking operators they need to improve their list of speakers to represent this space. It’s like going to a fast food joint called “Chicken Now” but once you get there you find nothing but hamburgers on the menu; as it stands it’s too dating oriented.

That will be great event. As I can see you’ll also be there. Hope to see you there and talk)

Said,
Thanks for your points.
Our staff has worked countless hours sending invitations and making
calls to numerous people in the Social Networking, Online Personals and
Web 2.0 industry. There is a dichotomy (more like a family quarrel)
between social networking executives and online personals. Some of the
large social netwoking executives say they want nothing to do with
online dating. I can’t fathom the reason behind their remarks. Large
online dating sites have generated for the industry a respectable
reputation in the business world as well as to the internet community.
Most social networking executives generally are pleasant to do business
with. However, some social networking executives have a ‘holier than
thou’ attitute.
Nevertheless, we have to deal with this strange form of discrimination.
Said, if you believe you can get a major social networking executive to
speak at the event, please contact us. We would be very interested and
would compensate you for your efforts.
Apart from that we’ll make sure that we’ll have alot of chicken and
hamburgers for the lunch session 😉 You’ll find the sessions covered
very informative.

Social Networking Conference -
Here’s the speakers that are of most interest to the social networking industry…
Mike Jones, Userplane CEO, Monday 15th Jan 8:30am
Userplane’s instant messenger is on MySpace and numerous social networking services. Userplane was recently bought by AOL. AOL were impressed that a 15 man team could produce a service that is live on over 100,000 sites.
Susan Mernit, Yahoo Personals Director of Global Product, Monday 15th Jan 10:45am
Susan is a product design expert. She’s talking on ‘Social Networks meet Premium Services’
Pete McGreevy, Lawyer, Monday 15th Jan 11:30am
Talking on ‘Online Dating and Social Networking Laws: How They Impact Businesses’
Those who want to start a social network can go see ‘Social Networking Software:
New Developments’ at 1:30pm on Monday 15th Jan with the CEO’s of Sparta, CollectiveX and Phorum.
Nokia knows a thing or two about social networking. Should be relevant. They’re speaking at 3:30pm on Monday.
On Tuesday 16th Jan at 10:30am Peter Pezaris is speaking. He’s CEO of Multiply.com, which is doing quite well now. 400 Alexa rank. Multiply was growing slowly for over a year and then kicked in at the beginning of this year. See Alexa… http://301url.com/717 What did they do right? I’m looking forward to hearing what Peter has to say.
Social networking services should have something to learn from Tickle.com’s VP, Steve Sarner, who is on at 11am on Tuesday.
It’s a shame MySpace, Friendster or Bebo etc, could not speak. I think they’ll take more interest in it this year. Last year around ~340 people came to Miami iDate. This year Marc has pulled out all the stops and I think he’ll have nicely over 400 people in attendance. There will be a lot more VC’s and social networking services in attendance.
We have a few people speaking again. I’m covering the news again. I’ll be doing a session with Marc Lesnick and Mike McQuown brainstorming on ways to make more money, and will be on the final panel adding more commentary to the events and issues. Mike Jones is speaking again…but hey, a lot has happened to Userplane in 2006, and noone is more plugged in to the industry than Mike (literally). Pete McGreevy will be talking about legal issues again.
Yes, it could be better…but then we say that every year. The real question is, is it better than last year? Looking over the agenda it looks stronger and a little more diverse than last year. Yahoo Personals is talking for the first time. That’s a huge plus.
The sessions are only half the draw for most people. The attendees themselves should be at least half the incentive for attending.
Note, the price also came down this year. This conference will grow to 500+ people next year. This year I think it will be at 400+ people. Last year it was 340 people.

I have found that many dating operators understand little about social networking and vice versa. While there are many similarities between the two, they are in many ways different animals.
To me dating is a niche of social networking. Both are social communities with one having a more specific focus for servicing singles. I think that some in the social networking space consider the established dating sites as old and passé; as a result, they may resent the association with what they perceive as “uncool” web 1.0 properties. Pretty silly – Web 1.0, Web 2.0, Web Purple Cows, Web 6.2, Web Infinite or whatever you want to call it, traffic and revenue is what makes a site relevant; the dating industry has both even if short on certain features and stylistic points that many 2.0 companies score. In January I will be launching my new project, NUZIZO, which is a social entertainment network – shortly after launch it’s my goal to effectively integrate dating to the experience (and no, it won’t be the typical boring co-brand a la the TRUE/Friendster partnership). I look forward to working as a bridge between the two industries.
As for the conference, I think that your difficulty in getting SN speakers is in part due to the image of the conference. I commend you for transitioning the conference to encompass the broader social networking space but the image/marketing could be better. There are currently two different interfaces and names for the conference (iDate and the Social Networking Conference) – which is it? If I am in the SN space visiting the SN Conference site I would feel that a) there is very limited content there and b) I would be bothered that all the he links on this page point to a dating conference (iDate2007.com).
Anyway, it’s a work in progress and I am confident that in time you will have success in offering a conference that is useful and well attended by both industries.
Life is good.

Ps: I have a SN executive for you that would be a great addition to the lineup. Let’s touch base tomorrow.
