ABC NEWS — Aug 23 — A growing number of sexual predators and pedophiles are taking advantage of online anonymity and dating sites to prey on single mothers and their children. It certainly doesn’t help that of all the major online dating sites, only True runs background screenings on its members to keep married people and criminals off the site.
Is this an ad for True? There’s nothing about dating sites that make them better for pedophiles to target single moms over the old-fashioned ways predators find victims, like single-parent mixers or church socials. Of course, it’s understandable that ABC News would push such a story, because “The internet is scary and dangerous!!!” is a favorite of television news and newspapers. Not only does fear sell, but it’s a convenient way for them to attack the medium that is destroying their revenue model.
