TANGO MAGAZINE — Dec 16 — Prediction 1: In 2012 first dates will no longer take place in a coffee shop."First dates will be on live video," says dating industry expert Mark Brooks of OnlinePersonalsWatch.com, "and videos don't lie like pictures do." Prediction 3: Girl gadgets grow up. By 2012, sex toys will be luxury gifts, as integral to womanhood as dark chocolate and pedicures. Prediction 4: Long-distance lovers plug in. See Highjoy and Sinulate. Prediction 5: In 2012, the average husband will be expected to flirt with you by text message, serenade you in live video, make wanton love to your virtual double over lunch, and still have enough energy to engage in thoughtful conversation at dinner. Also – the terms that you should be using for Prediction #2 is ‘Matchmaker’.
The word Yenta usually does not refer to a matchmaker but actually means something pretty derogatory. See definitions below:
Yenta (YEN-tah) is a Yiddish word referring to a busybody or gossip. Most definitions refer to it as a gossipy woman; a blabbermouth, who can’t keep a secret, who spreads rumors and scandal.

Predictions will be at the end of my talk at iDate 😉
Yenta was meant as a tongue in cheek term, as was the entire article. I am only responsible for the first two predictions, btw.

Sam – Matchmaker is a great brand and Patrick O’Leary was a true visionary starting it in 1986. But you’d have to ask him why he choose yenta as their Jewish brand. I’d never use that term.
