@sam: lower cpm’s are probably annoying him a little, but what i imagine gets under his skin is all this massive traffic and low revenue per member. it must kill him to see how much match and others make with less traffic. that said, i gotta give it to markus, he’s got a competitive streak, wants to expand, make more money and annoy more people (even if putting his foot in his mouth a few times a year =) btw, was great seeing everyone at iDate!

It’ll be interesting whether Markus does add paid – I think that creating his own platform initially would be a huge mistake.
He knows Free very well indeed, but it’s a massively different business running paid sites – he’d spend all his time on HR and management issues rather than his core strength of marketing and analytics.
A white label platform, however, now that would be a great way to test the water 😉
