- Ditched the paid virtual gifts
- Added a thumbnail cropping tool built in Ajax
- Revamped the profile system forcing better quality profiles
- Semi new design and cleanup of a lot of pages

With so many different free sites all over the world the only way forward is to offer better features than paid sites and more of them. But only if it actually helps users.

more features does not mean that a site is better; it may actually work to a sites detriment. that said, kudos to markus for making changes that should help the user experience. seems like the plethora of competition (ie other free sites), lower cpm’s and D2E have lit a fire under his ass. so much for a two hour workday…

Agree with Saïd – features rarely result in higher usage necessarily, at least in paid sites.
We’ve seen other platforms with a lot more features fail because they didn’t do the basics beautifully – helping their members find someone.
People join a dating site to find someone, so that’s the crucial area.
That said, kudos to Markus for being open about the problems and making changes to his site – not resting on his laurels by the sound of it.
It will also be interesting to understand the differences of what members really want on a free site compared to a paid site.
