OPW — May 5 — MixandMeet.com offers instant group meet-ups with a dating slant – where people with similar interests get together the same day they want to go out. Mix finds a group of men and women (up to 10 people) with similar interests (e.g. wine, travel) and age, who want to go out that same day. Using its geo-clustering engine, Mix searches its venue database and finds a place convenient for all. Finally, Mix allows the participants to text each other (without revealing cell numbers) to meet up at the venue. Mix is looking to offer the service to online dating/social network sites as a way to enable offline meet-ups for their current members without the physical overhead and hassle associated with organizing events. Dating sites will make money by rev sharing on mixers’ subscription fees and affiliate fees from participating venues. Would this idea work? Why and why not?

* FOR GROUP DATING AS COMPA
“Compa is very ritualized and unique. Generally, a single guy and girl who know each other organize the compa in advance, each agreeing to bring 3 or 4 eligible friends. The venue is usually a restaurant, or anywhere people can eat, drink and make a bit of noise. Generally speaking, compa isn’t for finding one night stands, but for making friends and possibly forming long-term relationships. However, there is still a stigma attached to attending a dating party, and someone going to a compa might tell coworkers or other friends they are going to a regular drinking party” extracted from Wikipedia
If it is intended for Asiatic countries, perhaps it could perform modestly well.
If it is intended for American & European countries, forget it because it definitely not going to perform as expected.
(American & European) Persons do not like / do not want group dating (compa).
Group dating was offered by MeetUp and Tribe.net during 2003 to 2005
I remember other proposals during 2005 – 2006
like
Compa.UK
Doubledate.com

The conclusion was always the same: Persons do not like / do not want group dating.
Also I remember when Engage was launched, Jul 2005, I said: persons do not want their friends / mums / parents / neighbours / relatives to be involved in a private matter as building a personal relationship with future in mind.
* FOR DATING IN GROUPS.
The proposal MixandMeet seems to be similar to (offline proposals) 8at8 or TableforSix; or other SpeedDating event.
What is new, different or better in MixandMeet’s approach than what’s already available?
