ABC NEWS — June 19 – When Barry signed up for Match.com, he was
optimistic, he perused profiles, wrote and sent messages and winks, and
then he waited…and waited. When replies failed to come, he thought
something was fishy. He is not alone. Barry is considering being part
of a proposed class action lawsuit filed by Sean McGuinn who is
claiming fraud against the online dating site. In McGinn's complaint,
he alleges Match.com perpetrates fraud by returning inactive or
canceled members in search results of seemingly dateable
people. Match.com in a statement denied any wrongdoing. "The allegation
that we would deceive our subscribers by encouraging them to connect
with inactive members does not make sense and is contradicted by our
14-year record." FULL ARTICLE @ ABC NEWS

I hope Match will be defeated and ordered to specify in its homepage:
Male users
Female users
All profiles: e.g. 27,000,000
Male customers
Female customers
Paying clients: e.g. 1,450,000
An international precedent exists, because something similar had happened with Parship in Belgium.

A more serious case was the Jana Claudia Gómez Menéndez case. She was a Match free user killed by a paid member!
William Trickett Smith II (USA) met Jana (Perú) via Match.com where she joined for FREE and he PAID to contact her.
William Trickett Smith II married Jana Claudia Gómez Menéndez in March 2007.
The body of the 21-year-old Peruvian woman was found stuffed inside a suitcase that washed up on a beach at Lima in mid-August of 2007, less than six months after she married Smith following an Internet romance. Smith is the only suspect in her death.
Match is completely free for women in some countries
like
Italy where they promote:
“Gratis per le donne” == “Free for women”
“Match.com is free for women until 22 July 2009. The offer is valid for women living in Italy who are not subscribing to the site, have completed their profile and have a visible photo.”
and also I believe free for women in many South American Countries.

The ratio of female to male members would be a good idea as well as how many messages are being sent out. lol. Too many guys sign up and have a cut n paste message broadcasted to a 200 mile radius.

Besides the “fake” member problem there is a more widespread one that is just as bad. They do not delete any profile!
I met my husband on Match.com and we have been together almost 3 years. Soon after we met we both asked them to remove our profiles.
As of today they still have not done it. The profiles show us as “active more than 3 weeks ago” – which may be true. However, I am sure that paying members would like to know that the correct period is more like 3 years!
Last week they suddenly started to send us emails again with potential mates and invitations to email them.

You should be able remove your profile directly on Match.com. Have a look in your acct settings.

I have been a member of Match for a while – was active in the midwest, dropped for a while when I was dating someone I met, and then joined again when I moved to the east coast recently. I can tell you that at least once a day or more, I get these “winks” from members whose profiles are so obviously false, or trying to hoodwink you. Each and every time I send them to Match and then I usually see that the profile has been ‘removed’ – but the same photo often comes back again as a different user name.
You can always tell because of the way they are written up – someone with a PhD in electrical engineering who can not compose a complete sentence without a plethora of spelling errors. Someone who promises you the world, to be your one and only, to love you forever – before you have even met…yuk!
I have written Match and notified them to cancel my membership because they SHOULD be screening all memberships – I can meet trash anywhere for free – certainly don’t need to pay for it!
