OPW — Aug 14 — First there was the Single Ring, Singelringen, now there's the Singles Necklace, or should I say, the SHI necklace, which stands for Single, Happy and Interested.
iDating sites continue to thrive despite the rise of social networks because internet dating sites offer up a pool of people who are not only single, but single, available and motivated. Social networks offer up people who may be single, but may not be that 'available' or motivated enough to respond. Singles rings and necklaces offer a similar promise. Wearers are indicating that they are not only single, but very available, and so motivated that they're prepared to wear a Singleringen or SHI necklace. But do they really work? Of course not. Very few people would recognize their meaning. But its a nice idea. I opted for the ring a while back, but noone ever recognized it and it looked a bit too metrosexual for my liking. – Mark Brooks

Thanks for the link to Singelringen Mark!
Singelringen is certainly the main product of that company. They now have the Singelringen Collection as well: http://www.us.singelringen.com/ourproducts
In terms of recognition, I have found that because Singelringen is so unique looking, many wearers say they are asked about it, giving them the opportunity to explain it with their own spin. Similar to readers of Singular Magazine (http://SingularCity.com), many choose to explain that they are enjoying their single life, they are complete on their own … while open to possibilities.

Interesting post re the different products for Singles. I absolutely love the SHI Symbol, it has real purpose and meaning and is just so stylish. The fact it already has that international recognition factor with the Mars and Venus signs was what sold it for me and it certainly helps break the ice for starting that conversation which sometimes is the hardest thing to do. The other thing is I have a gay friend and he finds it just as hard as the ‘straight’ community to meet other like minded Singles – well SHI Symbol solved his problem too because they have the specific SHI Symbol that is just for Gays (and there’s one for Lesbians too). So we’re all covered in a fashionable and classy way. Simple choice for me.

Some of the items are $70 but many range from $300-$645. Those are some crazy prices.
Fun idea for a side business, I’ve talked/worked with lots of people who have tried the same thing with rings, clothing, bracelets and all kinds of identifiers.
Guess what, it never works.
Most women don’t like the idea of wearing something that signifies they are single. Men don’t either. I’m sure you’ll sell some of these because people will buy anything but just because people wear Livestrong bracelets doesn’t mean they are going to walk around wearing a ring that says they are single.
You need to have a lot of exposure and sales to get the recognition about what the ring/charm means. Without that, nobody will know what it means. Nobody else has been able to crack this market, perhaps this will be the company.
Products looks pretty nice though.
Gripe: why do I have to give them my mobile number to get their newsletter?
