XTRA! – Apr 14 - Attached straight men and women looking for gay encounters are now very common, says Noel Biderman, founder of Ashley Madison, a hookup site designed for married folks looking to have affairs. Currently, AM boasts 200,000 attached users looking for casual same-sex hookups across Canada and the US. Biderman says AM offers discretion, something few other hookup websites provide. “The big thing between AM and other sites is your profile is honest." When people go to more traditional online dating, they usually have to lie about their relationship status, says Eric Resnick, online dating expert and coeditor of Online Personals Watch.

Mark, I have never understood how you can have this disgusting company as a client, esp. after such eloquent posts about how elated you are when couples get married because of something you’ve done (e.g. from your adventure club).
(That comment was here: http://www.onlinepersonalswatch.com/news/2010/04/adultery-has-roots-in-psychology.html#comments a mere week-and-a-half ago).
On the commment right above it (also from you), you said, “In short, I believe, the secret to a happy relationship, and a happy life overall is in helping other people be happy.”
It therefore strikes me as hypocritical, to say the least, and makes you partly responsible for relationships that deteriorate. You are helping facilitate cheating.
How is promoting an adulterous website “helping other people be happy”?
What kind of a legacy do you want?
Sorry for the harsh tone, but this has been bugging me (and I know others) for a while.
And, I think it needs to be said.
Sam
P.S. Please – no come-backs about marrieds wanting to cheat anyway, so at least have them go to AM. It’ll just invoke the crack-dealers-in-schoolyards response (“there’s a market, so may as well be you, right?”).

Sam,
Mark is not to be faulted for accepting business from a site you disagree with. Mark is one of the most honorable, moral and honest businessmen I know. He is impartial and fair and offers us an honest, edited forum for exchange of ideas.
That being said, Ashley Madison is not all its cracked up to be. The site is very slow to load for me, and the men are very clueless. They seriously think there are lots of women out there with only sex on their minds and who would accept a relationship with them with no strings attached, no dates, no dinner, no gifts or holidays spent together, etc. Those women are few and far between and are usually a little mentally mixed up to boot. Most women want an exchange of, at least in the beginning, nice dates, interesting conversation, a committment to a friendship and availability on holidays and special days within the relationship. The men on Ashley Madison offer NONE of these, and I very much doubt that more than one or two percent of them find any hookups at all. They also show how clueless about women they really are by their profiles. They post nude pics of body parts as if they believe that is what women want to see, just because that is what THEY want to see. Women are not visual creatures like men are; who doesn’t know that? Just because you want to see our naked parts does NOT mean we want to see yours! Men who understand this and keep it off their profiles are the ones who will really have success with the women whether married or not. I also seriously, very seriously doubt, the Ashley Madison website owners statistics. There is NO way that thousands of newlywed women are signing up on this site with serious intentions of cheating. Women as a whole just simply don’t look to cheat early in marriages; their concentration is on building marriages and raising children, not cheating. Signing up to look as a lark with your husband is very different from actually putting up a secret profile with the intention of cheating, and Ashley Madison has no differentiation between those populations.
What I find particularly sad on Ashley Madison is how many men will email you details of their wives and kids because they think that makes them look authentic and sincere. Men, get a clue. When you are willing to expose your families you are no bargain to us women who might really be looking for a fling. My prediction for this site is that it tanks in a few short years as society turns back to a more conservative way of thinking and mating.

Kerry, how can one honourably promote a business which promotes dishonour?
You said, “When you are willing to expose your families you are no bargain to us women who might really be looking for a fling.”
How can any man who is married be a “bargain” to any woman?
Any man willing to cheat on his wife and kids (or vice versa) is hardly a “bargain”.
I wish you were right about society becoming more conservative!

As much as I hate with a passion the existence of the site Ashley Madison and other similar sites, they serve a very important purpose and cause. They’ve effectively soaked up a lot of the marrieds from regular dating sites, allowing people who are married, but motivated to cheat, to cease misrepresenting themselves.
Nothing kills the reputation of the idating industry faster than stories of women who date and then fall in love (and lust) with guys who later admit to being married. Marrieds should not be on regular dating sites. AM serves a great cause in that respect.
Courtland Brooks no longer serves Avid Life Media. We assisted them with work on multiple properties, but at the end of the day, the Courtland Brooks all had a very hard time getting motivated to work on AM.

Mark, I’m not going to attempt a response to your reasoning; too easy – wouldn’t be sporting 🙂
I wonder why your staff were hard to motivate?
I’m glad they are no longer a client. It was bad for your business (and morals).
I still see them on the right side bar under “Site Sponsors” (top one and two), though.
