OPW – Aug 3 – A good friend sent me the following email.
"What are your thoughts of dating sites that use dishonest scams to get members to convert? I signed up to datetallmen.com, out of curiosity, and I got 4 emails from very attractive men, however I had no picture posted. When I went to “who viewed me” it says 0 people have viewed my profile. So noone viewed my profile, yet I have 4 interested handsome men? My conclusion is that this site is sending fake emails to lure members to sign up. I met the owners at the idate, how do they sleep at night? Kinda makes you wonder about this industry."
Your comments please.

A similar story: Recently a close relative of mine registered on a dating site. She is around her 50s. The very next day, she received several messages from guys at their 20s. And get this, her profile did not even have pictures.
I’m guessing there are many sites which conduct similar practices.
1. These practices are throwing away the brand value of those individual sites. No long term good revenue is possible for those sites.
2. These practices are also creating a bad name for the whole dating industry.
There is also the issue of regulation. I would hate to see online dating industry regulated, but these issues might be taking us towards regulation.
We are already spending a lot of time on keeping away the scammers and fraudsters from our sites. And it is unfortunate some of the competition is damaging the industry as well.
But here is what I think. I think in the long term legitimate sites will still succeed. Common thinking is “word of mouth” does not work for dating sites. My experience is otherwise. Nowadays when people meet on a dating site they are not as reluctant to share their experience.

What is crazy is how common this sort of thing is. For example, I had a friend who signed up for Zoosk. She received a whole bunch of messages from guys in their 20s within about 5-10 minutes of signing up. The crazy thing is that these messages had been sent anywhere from 5-8 hours BEFORE she signed up. Um, hello?

Mark….. Correct me if I’m wrong, but it looks as though DateTallMen.com is a product of Fling.com, which owns multiple dating sites with practices similar to the one described above. Is Fling.com still a client of yours?

DateTallMen.com is a product of Elite Global Dating which is based in L.A. So not a product of Global Personals which owns Fling.com and other sites – http://www.globalpersonalsmedia.com/sites.html

Irena….. I stand corrected, and my apologies to Fling in this instance. However, this is exactly how Fling and several other dating site companies do business; namely, that customers who don’t even completely register or post pictures are bombarded with emails from fake dates who are supposedly enamoured with their profiles on the dating site.

Maybe this sites owner only thinks of making money, and doesn’t care about a persons feelings. I have seen this site which offers a job. I’ve seen a job posted, to make an old person to fall inlove with her. They don’t mind if This old man can die from a broken heart and empty pocket.

I hate those king of tactics.
I’ve build a dating site where people would only receive messages from others if others really sent them, people would only receive the messages if they are available for dating.
I think the industry is going on a path where users will eventually flock those major sites and look for some smaller and more genuine sites…

Jonathan – Seeing your post, just make me think of great timely promotion for your site. “Prop 8 California: Just because now you can make a commitment . . . doesn’t mean you have too.” – Manhunt.net.

Glenn G. Millar….. Wherever I go Manhunt users tell me that they met their partners on our web site. Some are now even legally married to their partners. Same-sex marriage is legal in Canada, Argentina, much of Europe, and 5 U. S. states and DC. But, like at AshleyMadison.com, married or not, they can still use Manhunt.net for a fling.

A good dating site should have security and privacy policies and those that don’t are best avoided.Beware of less-than-reputable services that send fraudulent emails.

I think it’s a bad idea if this whole dating site is a just a joke, that it’ll just take money from people. Especially those old people who are hoping fr things to work out.
