IDATE – Nov 23 – The new Internet Dating Safety Act declares that residents of the state of New York need to be informed of the potential risks of participating in internet dating services. After registrations users will receive a list of notifications:– Act with caution when communicating with strangers
– Never include your last name, email address, home address, phone number, place of work in your profile
– Stop communicating with anyone who pressures you fro personal or financial information
– Before meeting somebody, always tell a friend or family where you are going
– Always provide your own transportation
– Meet in a public place

How about an act to mandate people have and use “common sense”?

Some people don’t think so much about safety when they sign up to a dating site, i think it’s okay to do something that might get them to open their eyes to the danger signs associated with online dating.

You can’t legislate against stupidity, but if you read the act itself all it’s saying is that websites should carry guidelines pointing out the potential risks of meeting someone through an online dating site.
Most reputable sites already carry such advice already.
