SKIFF.COM – Mar 3 – According to a report in Time that examined racial preference in dating sites, whites were more likely to state they had no racial preference but still only communicated with fellow whites. On the other hand, black people were more likely to state they were interested in other blacks on their profiles but were also more likely to communicate with whites. Psychologist Jerry Mendelsohn said in the report that segregation has become a social norm and "is sort of built into the social scene for the time being." eHarmony and Match.com subconsciously encourage stereotypes in their advertisements. When Americans see couples on TV that feature two individuals of the same race, they ultimately accept that portrayal as a norm.

Singles can be quite myopic based on their search norms. Singles don’t really know what they want. Realise, there are two kinds of internet dating sites. Regular dating sites, and matchmaking sites. Matchmaking sites do a better job of moving singles away from their search norms and helping them meet people who may be of better compatibility with them. Despite being of a different culture.
The more we mix up our humanities and cultures, and religions, the better for society. I’m all for homogenization, and more harmonization of the human species, if it means less ignorance and discrimination.

I think that online dating is a mirror of what real-life dating is like.
If a person lives in a primarily white or black neighborhood, they may feel uncomfortable meeting a stranger online from a different race/culture. There might be more tolerance or less for the religious and christian sites, but in general, there is so much sketchiness and safety issues online, I don’t know if women or some men are willing to go outside their comfort zones.
If they meet people from a different race in real life and have close friendships as neighbors or co-workers, then I can see more acceptance of different races online.
It also comes down to the expectations of each man or woman when they date, and what they want in the relationship, marriage, casual dating, etc.

Should they? No?
Like it or not, people have preferences. It’s not racist for me to only want to date white asian and latino women.
Stop trying to tell me and these dating sites that we are racist for having a racial preference when it comes to dating.
You are the one in the wrong here.

It is cultural – Americans are legendary for their social backwardness which is promoted and pervasive in their society……this leads to people like ‘D’ above branding this behavior as ‘normal’.
True love is not based on color……
