MARKETWIRE – Mar 10 – Revenue for the Q4 '10 was $10.1M, a decrease of 9% compared to $11.1M for the Q4 '09, and an increase of 2% compared to $9.9M in the prior quarter. POSTMEDIA NEWS – Mar 15 – Toronto-based FastLife.ca reports that, based on its analysis of ~40K speed-dating interactions, men and women who "drink often, smoke occasionally, and enjoy frequent rolls in the hay are considered more attractive by the opposite sex" than people who exercise greater self-control in those areas. "At our events, you spend eight minutes chatting with somebody, and if you like them, you put a 'yes' next to their name," says Justin Parfitt, CEO of FastLife. Social drinkers earned a "yes" 44% of the time, and non-drinkers 37%. Secular men and women boasted a success rate of 46%, on average, compared to 42% for the religious. Liberal views on sex correlated with 47% success, while a more conservative outlook saw an average score of 40%.

PRESS RELEASE – Mar 15 – The team that developed Grindr announces the official launch of Project Amicus, the codename and website for a new location-based mobile app that lets users discover, interact, and meet with nearby people. Amicus, a Latin word meaning 'friend,' highlights the project's social emphasis. The app will allow users to connect with other people based on their physical location and facilitate new social relationships. Grindr, the world's largest all-male location-based network, has 1.5M members in 180 countries, with 300K active daily users. Grindr is currently available for iOS, Android, and BlackBerry mobile devices.
USA TODAY – Mar 14 – On TheJMom.com, it’s Jewish mothers — not singles — who are making connections, trying to find potential mates for their kids. Users, who don’t have to be moms even though most are, write about their families and can upload pictures of themselves and their single children. They also fill out profile information with their child’s name, age, location, education, occupation and religious background, and write about their kid’s interests. Since the site was launched in Dec, 60 dates have been established and 500 people have signed on as users.

TECH CRUNCH – Mar 13 – JDate has filed a patent lawsuit against 2RedBeans, Zoosk, and OKCupid. JDate alleges that all three companies are infringing the same patent, which states that Sparks Networks (JDate’s parent company) has invented a method or apparatus for automating the process of confidentially determining whether people feel mutual attraction or have mutual interests. JDate has a patent on detecting secret crushes. The suit calls out OkCupid’s QuickMatch, Zoosk’s Scientific Matching Service, and 2RedBean’s Secret Admire function as infringing JDate-owned patent # 5,950,200, titled “Method and Apparatus for Detection Of Reciprocal Interests or Feelings And Subsequent Notification.” Spark Networks wants the three companies to pay damages to JDate for the infringement.
