TheJMom.com Launching in Israel

Posted on August 15, 2011

Thejmom logo new MARKETWIRE – Aug 12 - TheJMom.com is launching in Israel. In almost a year, TheJMom has connected 1K  parents throughout the U.S. and Canada. How the site works: A parent writes a profile, including a photograph of their child and information about their family as well. Then, if the parent spots a potential set up, they contact the parent of the potential date. Once both parties agree to set up their kids, the profiles are emailed to their children. The kids then take it from there and choose to email their potential match.

Facebook Doesn’t Cause Syphilis

Posted on August 15, 2011

Facebooknove TECH CRUNCH – Mar 24 – Numerous British newspapers and tabloids reported that Facebook use had been “linked to a rise in Syphilis” in a number of cities in the UK.  Facebook users out there may want to think twice before putting any weight into the claim. All of the articles quote the same person: Professor Peter Kelly, director of Public Health for NHS Tees. “I don’t get the names of people affected, just figures. And I saw that several of the people had met sexual partners through social networks. There is a rise in syphilis because people are having more sexual partners than 20 years ago and often do not use condoms.” This sounds more like an observation based on a small number of cases rather than an established trend, and it doesn’t say anything about causation.

Hey, We’re Doing Video Again. Video Interviews

Posted on August 13, 2011

Video-filming1 OPW – Aug 13 – This week we're moving to video interviews.  You may recall that in 2009 we ran weekly news summary videos.  We were even crazy enough to run one episode from a Venice Gondola. Anyway, we think CEO video interviews are more useful, entertaining and enduring than these little news summaries.

Our first interview with any site CEO will capture their founding story.  Ensuing interviews will be around news, launches and discussions on important issues. Watch this space.  And please email me at mark@courtlandbrooks.com if you have a burning desire to be heard, and have your idating site story captured.

Bear in mind, the target audience of OPW is internet dating executives and architects, and press that want to research the industry.

The overarching goal of both OPW and Courtland Brooks is to help grow the internet dating industry as a whole, for the good of users.

Our first interviews will be with the CMO of Procall, the CEO of IntegrityID, and the CEO of Sugardaddie…starting Tuesday.

Posted on August 12, 2011

Okcupid logo aktualni TECH CRUNCH – Aug 12 – OkCupid is making a big move today in the mobile space—the service is adding location-based functionality to its Android and iOS mobile apps. For background, OkCupid singles tend to be younger, which is one of the reasons why IAC’s Match.com decided to buy the dating startup for $50M earlier this year. You can now broadcast if you are free, want others to join in plans and more. The bonus of OkCupid is that you can set up the feature to only send these broadcasts to people who are personality and interets matches for you in your location.
