I just wrote a position paper about Badoo for a client, I’ll spare you the consultant-speak and the diagrams.
Badoo is mostly fake profiles and hooking up. 95% of the women near me are non-white, non-US, Spanish-speaking and they never, ever respond to you unless in chat and they want you to email them at yahoo.
Brilliant monetization strategy that they are working for as long as they can. Mostly useless as a dating site. Nowhere near 130 million active profiles, but still impressive given how disappointing the experience is.
The fact is that Badoo has a SinglesNet-like arc to it. They will continue to experience massive churn and still make money for a while until we all get tired of paying them $25/month and getting little in return.
Granted the rest of the world has been hooking up and tiring of Badoo for many months now, we here in the US are only beginning to get annoyed with it. Will people in the US pay for placement? Nope, not how they are doing it. They could do something brilliant that the US market warms to, thats what I’m watching for, but certainly not going to win us over in its current format.
