OPW – Nov 11 – iDate Moscow took place on September 29-30, 2011. A surprising number of internet dating and social networking executives, VCs, affiliate managers and payment processors were in attendance.
This was a good synopsis of an event for all those people who couldn’t be there. What I took out of the conversation were some of the differences in strategy and business approaches from the west, for instance:
1) dating sites in Russia putting more of an emphasis on marketing to men because they know the women will come;
2) how the leading matchmaker in Russia continues to work with a couple after they’ve been brought together; and
3) the kiosks that are used in Russia to make payments which makes conversions a bit more challenging.
It’s good to know how business is conducted in other parts of the world. Some strategies can be implemented, while others are just good to know.
