TIME OUT – Dec 7 - A new dating app is hitting the LGBT scene. Developed in Hong Kong and San Francisco, Hornet operates much like Grindr. Setting up a Hornet account requires users to state their HIV status. If you choose ‘negative’, the app requests the date of your last doctor’s visit. Mark, there is no 3 dollars a month pricing model. It’s presently a free app.
Hornet is built on a very different platform with other concepts in mind. Grindr is pretty rigid and committed to showing you who is the closet gay person near you.
Hornet’s software backbone is different, but also has a different approach, rather than nearest guy, it is based on criteria you set 1) what the person looks like, and when and where they are located. Say you work in the downtown financial district but you prefer people in your neighborhood which might be of the same ethnicity, you can look for people close to your home and people who meet your other criteria.
