Go to 3:50 of this video to see the 2 minute segment on the science of why cheating is bad for your health. In summary, a survey of 800 cheaters by the University of Michigan found that cheaters were 30% less likely to have safe sex when they were cheating, and 64% more likely to use drugs and alcohol during their encounter. An Italian study of 1700 cheaters found that they were twice as likely to suffer from cardiovascular disease, probably from the stress of cheating. What do you think Noel (CEO, Ashley Madison)?

Without knowing the full framework of the study – for example were they studying university students which is typically what a university driven research group does – then projecting the results forward on to say marital infidelity would likely result in a false positive. We have seen time and time again that “post secondary” behaviour and results differ greatly from how married individuals behave.
The Italian study also came under criticism as it was not necessarily looking at people actively engaging in affairs but people who historically had committed infidelity…if that is the case then the “cause” of any health issue could the stressful marriage itself…after all infidelity happens for a reason. I would actually hypothesize that if you studied active affairs and utilized a mass of subjects, that you would find health benefits from losing weight to working out more actively being predominant
