New Online Dating Startups

Posted on September 14, 2012

Dateini logoTECH CRUNCH – Sep 13 – Michael Cafferata, a firefighter, started VideoDate, a mobile video chat app. The entire experience, including filling out your profile, happens on a mobile device. The app will try to match you with other users, and if you and another person are interested in each other, you can do a video chat. You can’t just do a video call with someone who hasn’t approved you. The app is ad supported, but Cafferata says a paid ad-free version will be released later. Frimper is another video app. But instead of a mobile app, the company has gone with a Facebook app. There are two main components: matching algorithms and an online “speed-dating”. The speed-dating component is the catchy part, but Frimper is investing heavily on the algorithm. Frimper’s matching isn’t based just on what you say about yourself, but also about what other Frimper users you interact with say about you. Dateini solves a different problem entirely: What do you do once you’ve already got a date? The company provides a date-planning application described as a virtual concierge service.

Meeting Online Is A Faster-Track To The Bedroom?

Posted on September 14, 2012

Sugardaddie_Sexual Fast-trackPR WEB – Sep 12 – A new survey by Sugardaddie.com found that people (67% of respondents) are more likely to have sex on their first real life date than those who meet the old fashioned way. Some respondents said that the actual physical first date with someone you’ve already chatted to online, isn’t strictly speaking a ‘first date’ because the pair have already interacted, got to know each other’s likes, tone of communication and possibly had a little flirt.

MyLovelyParent.com: Where Kids Get Involved In Parent’s Love Life

Posted on September 11, 2012

Mylovelyparent logoINDEPENDENT.CO.UK. – Sep 11 – Having an unattached parent gave two brothers (Matt and Tim Connolly) an idea for MyLovelyParent.com, a dating site where they could advertise their lovely mum to prospective suitors. A child signs up its parent, writes a profile for them and they can then browse the site and send recommendations of people they like into their mother or father's inbox. With 30% of Brits in their fifties single, divorced or widowed, the potential market for a dating tool that targets older members of the populous is large. Bob Greg, founder of OnlyDads.org, a website giving advice and support to single dads, thinks MyLovelyParent.com is "a good idea, until you really think about it. It could put an awful lot of pressure on children in an area that's not really any of their business," he says. "What happens when a relationship they've had a hand in goes wrong? It could impact on the child."
