Dating App Tinder Catches Fire

Posted on September 6, 2013

Tinder screenshots1BUSINESSWEEK – Sep 5 – Tinder is a pathologically addictive flirting-dating-hookup app. The average Tinderer checks the app 11 times per day, seven minutes at a time. The app was born in a startup lab controlled by IAC. The app had a crisp design and the irresistible swipe-to-rate gesture. “Services like Tinder and OkCupid acclimate new groups of people to meeting online,” said CEO Gregory Blatt. Tinder may one day draw revenue of its own, but for now it’s essentially a gateway drug to Match.com.

Skout Spams Its Users – Error Or Intention?

Posted on September 6, 2013

Skout logoTECH CRUNCH – Sep 5 – Mobile dating app Skout raised $22 million from Andreessen Horowitz and is more than half a decade old. It also had a recent spate of spamming its users using other user profiles to drive activity. According to Skout, this was caused by a bug which is now fixed. A company with Skout’s scale certainly tracks its metrics and must have noticed the spike in messages being sent.

New Dating App Twine Looks To Dig Deeper

Posted on September 2, 2013

Twine screenshotMERCURY NEWS – Sep 1 – Twine launched on July 31st and wants its users to connect based on common interest instead of relying on looks. Twine stands out by initially hiding members' identities and appearances, according to Mark Brooks, an iDating industry analyst and consultant. It vows to keep an even ratio of men to women in each city, which solves a criticism of digital dating that women get "inundated by guys and guys are often ignored," Brooks said. In 2011, for the first time, singles spent more time on dating apps than on dating websites, according to IBISWorld. "This app world we live in now is not going to be around forever," said Marc Lesnick, who organizes the annual iDate conference. Users continue to complain about the limited features available on their smaller smartphone screens, along with advertisers who don't like the size of their ads, Lesnick said.

Bang With Friends Back In The App Store

Posted on September 2, 2013

Bangwithfriends mobile appCNET NEWS – Aug 29 – The app, which connects Facebook friends interested in hooking up, is back in the Store under new name "Down."
