Users touch "I'am Safe" button to let their contacts know when they arrive safe at their destination. In an emergency they can press SOS which sends an alert containing a link to their GPS location. The app will also dial 911.

Berkeley International Finds Love For Millionaires For £10k

Dating Worth £3.6 Billion Annually To UK Economy
FRESH BUSINESS THINKING – Sep 9 – UK singles spend £3.6 billion a year in their pursuit of love, according to match.com's research. Supplemented by The Centre for Economic Business Research, the survey of 1,000 British singles shows that ~37M dates take place each year and the average couple spend £103 on each date. The overall spend on entertainment, restaurants and bars in 2013 was £2.1 billion, up from £1.3 billion in 2012. The average dater also spends ~£281 every year on clothing, cosmetics and beauty when specifically preparing for a date.

NY POST – Sep 10 – Unlike some of the traditional elite matchmakers in New York, Van Doran, who is in her late 20s, is happy to take on attractive female clients in their 40s and 50s. Statistically they are harder to match. In New York City, 60% of single men date women who are ~10 years younger. She specializes in introducing “gorgeous, artistic ladies” to “interesting Bohemian types”. Van Doran limits her number of clients to just 14. A six-month retainer fee of $5K covers introductions, feedback after dates, invitations to dinner parties and larger events, image consulting and managing online profiles.

Gong Haiyan: China’s Number One Matchmaker
BBC – Sep 11 – Gong Haiyan, the self-made millionaire, was born in a village in Hunan Province where everyday life was a struggle. She won a place at Peking University, then moved to Fudan University in Shanghai for her Masters. Her love-life, however, was non-existent. So Gong paid 500 RMB to register with a dating site. But she got no replies and discovered the company had stolen profiles. "I felt very angry," she says, "so I asked a friend of mine how much it costs to set up my own dating service." Like Facebook, Gong's website was set up from her college dorm. Ten years on Jiayuan.com, which means beautiful destiny, has ~100M users and offices in several Chinese cities. Her company went public In May 2011.

SYDNEY MORNING HERALD – Sep 11 – According to eHarmony, the average Australian online dater has never been married, is in their early-to-mid thirties and works as a teacher. The second and third most popular professions are nursing and retail for females, truck-driving or in a trade for males. The numbers and professions on RSVP paint a slightly different picture. The most popular profession is healthcare followed by education, science and then trades and services. The most popular age group is 25 to 34-year-olds, followed by 35 to 44.
