Grindr Hooks Up With Gay Activists To Unblock The App In Turkey
GAYSTAR NEWS – Sep 18 – Grindr is working with leading Turkish LGBT association, KAOS GL and digital LGBT activists at All Out to petition Turkey to lift the ban. There were 125K active monthly Grindr users in Turkey. Istanbul’s Criminal Court of Peace blocked Grindr as a ‘protection measure’ on Sep 11th.
A Dating Site’s Facebook Ad Used Photo Of Dead Girl
BUSINESS INSIDER – Sep 18 – Facebook banned ionechat.com
from advertising on its site after it posted an ad featuring a photo of
Rehtaeh Parsons, a 17-year-old Canadian who hanged herself after photos
of her alleged rape were posted online. The controversy is sure to
reignite ongoing debate between Facebook and privacy advocates over how
advertisers should be allowed to display user data alongside Facebook
ads. The offending website, ionechat.com, is currently down.

PlentyOfFish Acquires FastLife
CNW – Sep 18 – POF is acquiring FastLife, the world's largest speed dating and singles event company. "The direction of online dating is undeniably headed towards a merging of the online and offline worlds," said Markus Frind, founder and CEO of POF. FastLife holds ~2,400 events a year. These events have generated annual revenue of ~$2.5M. POF and FastLife will be rolling out singles events in US over the next year. FastLife was created by a husband and wife team, Justin and Annabelle Parfitt. Annabelle will continue as CEO of FastLife, which is branded as Fast Impressions in Australia. POF wants to invest ~$30M in the next 12 months."
