TECHNOLOGY REVIEW – Nov 19 – Computer scientists at the University of Iowa in Iowa City have developed a dating recommendation engine that matches people with partners they find attractive but only ones that are likely to find them attractive too. It not only assesses users tastes but also measures their attractiveness. The scientists don’t say whether they’ve had interest in testing it on a real dating sites or whether they plan to start their own dating site.

When people make awesome matches, they talk up their favorite idating brand. There’s really two schools of thoughts in the iDating world.
1. Let users search through our database and find their own way. Empower them with search, but leave them to find their own matches.
2. Lets help them and guide them to compatible matches.
I’m a proponent of the 2nd school of thought. But users should still have the ability to search. And also do backwards compatibility searches. i.e. a friend of mine once told me “I’m Indian, I want to find women who like Indian guys.”

I agree Mark. Personally I never online dated, but using the NetFlix idea I feel as though when they send me recommendations that it locks me out of the larger pool of movies. I would rather be able to look from A-Z. Or from Blondes to Brunettes and everything in between. Thanks for the article
