"We are not a no-strings website. We are for singles that have no expectations of moving in after three months and value their free time and independence." Croydon says she never wants to get married or have kids.

USA TODAY – Jan 26 – Mobile video communication is one of the latest trends in online dating and is the focus of a number of services including Dating.fm, Flikdate, VideoDate, View N Me and Instamour. "Skype started the whole genre change and FaceTime took it into mobile," says Marc Lesnick, founder of iDate. "FaceTime already proves that the model works." Mobile video communication is made with advances in mobile technology and allows for a limited first date experience without the full commitment of an in-person meeting.
Internet Dating Study Suggests Racial Barrier Can Be Overcome
PRESS RELEASE – Jan 26 – A study by sociologist Kevin Lewis of the interaction patterns of 126,134 U.S. users of OkCupid.com suggests that racial prejudice can be overcome, but we have a long way to go. Lewis found that people still self-segregate in online dating as much as they do in face-to-face interactions, most reaching out to those in their own racial background. However, if a person is contacted first by someone outside their race, their were more likely to contact others within that race. Thous Lewis found that the effect only lasted about a week.

Tastebuds Launches Gig Roulette Feature

Match.com France Confirms Squeeze-out And Delisting Of Meetic Shares
BUSINESS WIRE – Jan 24 - Match.com France Limited has confirmed its intention to implement a mandatory squeeze-out and pursuant delisting of Meetic shares from the Euronext exchange. The procedure follows suit with the simplified takeover bid initiated by Match.com France and will be completed on January 31, 2014. It will involve 179k Meetic shares at EUR 18.75 per share.

Match.com Launches Delightful Following HowAboutWe Into Date Planning
BUZZFEED – Jan 23 - Match.com parent company IAC has launched Delightful as a service to plan dates for couples. The service is currently only available in San Francisco at a cost of $12 per month. HowAboutWe launched its date planning service HowAboutWe for Couples a year ago and has just added Los Angeles as its fifth city. The service costs $18 per month and in the New York market about 12% of its users previously used the dating part of the website. Date planning services are a way to hang onto customers as well as attract new ones.
SawYouAtSinai Combines Old-school Matchmaking with Internet Dating
JWEEKLY – Jan 24 – Launched in 2003, Jewish dating website SawYouAtSinai.com combines old-school shidduch (matchmaking) strategies with modern Internet dating. The service relies on a team of volunteer matchmakers to scour the user databases and suggest matches. Volunteers must be married and willing to devote six hours per week. The site has more than 30,000 users, with nearly 1,000 matches resulting in marriage in the past decade.
Study Suggest 50% Of Couples Will Meet Online In 20 Years
DAILYMAIL.CO.UK – Jan 23 – A research study released by eHarmony suggests that 50% of couples will meet online within 20 years. They predict that number will rise to 70% by 2040. The 55 to 64-year-old age group is expected to see a 30 per cent rise from 2013 to 2030 , increasing from 1.87 million to 2.41 million. Internet access among those 18 to 64 has doubled in the past decade to 88%. eHarmony is predicting the future of dating will contribute more than £256 million of consumer spending by 2030 – an increase of 81% compared to today.
