Facebook Bans Dating Affiliates

Posted on January 15, 2014

Facebook fuck affiliatesCHARLES NGO – Jan 13 – If you try to submit a dating ad on Facebook, you might get a rejection. Not only are dating ads going to be rejected, but anyone caught running them will get their accounts banned. Starting now the only people allowed to promote Dating ads on Facebook are white listed advertisers and the affiliates that the advertisers have approved. Why would Facebook do this? The ads were getting too risque and hurting the user experience.

Andrew Conru Of AdultFriendFinder.com Forecasts ‘Peak Orgasm’

Posted on January 13, 2014

Ffn peak orgasm graphOPW – Jan 13 – Dr. Andrew Conru is the Founder of FriendFinder and took the reigns as CEO again last month. You've heard of peak oil, but have you heard of peak orgasm? He's developed a formula for Peak Orgasm. "We combine stats for sex frequency and population by age," said Andrew Conru. "This allows us to locate where the most people in the world are having the most sex at any given time". FFN found out that Japan reached Peak Orgasm in 1993 and has been on a steady decline ever since. The U.S is just on the crest of Peak Orgasm. Stats warn of a downhill slump to come. Central Africa, Pakistan and India are on their way up.

Turks Won’t Admit They Met Online

Posted on January 13, 2014

Pembepanjur logoAL MONITOR – Jan 12 – The Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK) finds that only 0.1% of 603,751 marriages in 2012 happened after couples met online, compared to 41% tying the knot with people introduced by family. “I don’t take TUIK’s findings seriously," said Haluk Akin, co-owner of PembePanjur, a dating site with ~2M visitors. “There is a negative perception about finding your partner online, and couples usually end up lying about it." Ersan Ozer, owner of Istanbul.net, Ankara.net and Izmir.net, agrees.

Fresh New Book: Online Dating Economics

Posted on January 12, 2014

OPW – Jan 12 – Here’s a new book worthy of your attention.  By Paul Oyer, a Stanford University professor of economics.

Everything I Learned About Economics I Learned Through Online Dating

And here’s an 4 minute intro by Professor Oyer.

  • Online dating is one of the most interesting markets in the world.
  • Should I go big, or go niche?
  • Dating sites should allow people to send one or two messages a month as exclusive, ‘you’re my top choice messages.’
  • Verification is lacking.  People lie, and people are driven to lie because of competition.  Its a problem.

iDate Interview With Markus Frind Of PlentyofFish.com – Questions Request?

Posted on January 10, 2014

Pof markus frind jan 14OPW – Jan 10 – Last year I was thrilled to have the opportunity to interview Dr Neil Clark Warren, Founder and CEO of eHarmony, at iDate. Video.

This year, given that Sam Yagan, the Founder of OKCupid, is now the CEO of Match Group, I thought I'd have a fireside chat with his instigator and nemesis, Markus Frind, the Founder of PlentyofFish. He's a controversial figure in the iDating industry executive. Let's hear what he has to say about the past years events and the future of iDating.

Please email me your thoughts on questions you'd like me to ask during the interview, to mark@onlinepersonalswatch.com. Thanks for your consideration.

(Full Disclosure: Markus Frind/POF was a client of Courtland Brooks from Oct '06-Mar '10, and July '11-Mar '13)
