Meet Tinder Founders Sean Rad & Justin Mateen
TIME – Feb 5 - Tinder has become a dating phenomenon in just 17 months. Its founders Sean Rad and Justin Mateen first met in a private high schools in LA but their story began at University of Southern California in 2004. They were both working on their own side businesses, so they decided to join forces. Rad is responsible for introducing Mateen to the iPhone. It changed his life. In the beginning, 90% of Tinder users were between the ages of 18 and 24. After 17 months of growth, Tinder’s college-aged users are ~50%. “We always saw Tinder, the interface, as a game,” Rad said. "It doesn’t even matter if you match because swiping is so fun.” Rad found his serious girlfriend on Tinder. Future plans involve helping people get to know the people they have been matched with better.
Facial Recognition Technology Not Allowed For Google Glass
IBTIMES.CO.UK – Feb 5 – NameTag, an app for Google Glass which can scan faces in real time and identify people through publicly-available, online information, won't be distributed through Google's official app store for Google Glass. Google's Glass developer policies do not allow for Glassware (the name for Glass software) that supports any form of facial recognition technology.
Match.com Q4 2014 Results: Revenue up 12%
IAC – Feb 5 – Match.com Q4 revenue was ~204M, up 12% YOY. Revenue growth was driven by an increase in subscribers. Operating income was $81.4M, up 30% YOY. Profits increased due to higher revenue and lower customer acquisition costs. In Dec, IAC created a new unit called Match Group that will focus on expanding the company's online-dating business. The new group will include IAC's Match businesses, Tutor.com, DailyBurn and IAC's investment in Skyllzone.
Online Dating Now Responsible For Majority Of First Dates
BETABEAT – Feb 5 – This year’s Singles in America study, released by Match.com, showed that singles are more likely to get a date online than any other way. 31% of respondents' first dates stemmed from an online connection. Friend-of-a-friend connections accounted for 25% of first dates. Meeting through work came in third place (8%), while meeting at a bar came in last with 6%.

San Francisco Sues MeetMe Over Teens Stalking
MERCURY NEWS – Feb 5 – San Francisco sues MeetMe app, saying it illegally gives underage teenagers' personal information and geographic locations to strangers without obtaining valid consent. Children under 13 are not allowed on MeetMe.com and adults 18+ are not permitted to view profiles of children in the 13- to 17-year-old age group. But the lawsuit alleges the website does not verify the birthdates of users.
