Ashley Madison Ex-CTO Hacked Competing Site

Posted on August 25, 2015

NerveLogoWIRED – Aug 24 – According to an email exchange in November 2012, Ashley Madison's one-time CTO told colleagues, including the CEO of parent company Avid Life Media, that he had found a security hole in the web site of Nerve.com and used it to exfiltrate the competitor's entire database. He also indicated that he had the ability to alter records in the database. If Bhatia did in fact hack Nerve.com, he could be criminally charged with unauthorized access under the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act.

Police Link 2 ‘Unconfirmed Reports Of Suicides’ To Ashley Madison Hhack

Posted on August 25, 2015

Ashleymadison hack suicidesMASHABLE – Aug 24 – At least two Ashley Madison clients have reportedly committed suicide in the wake of the website's massive hack, Toronto police said on Monday, in an appeal to both the public and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security for help. Police added that there have been unspecific "hate crimes" as a result of the hack, which was rumored for weeks but confirmed last week when hackers dumped the personal information of millions of the site's users on the web after the company refused their demands to shut it down. Avid Life Media is putting up a $500K reward for information that leads to the "identification, arrest and prosecution" of the hackers who leaked its massive database last week.

Plenty Of Fish Targetted By Cyber Criminals

Posted on August 25, 2015

Pof logo smallDAILYSTAR.CO.UK – Aug 21 – People who visited PlentyOfFish in the last few days are likely to have had malicious spying software installed on their computers, which would have then tracked all of their keystrokes. This means hackers can see everything a person is typing – including when they log in to their online banking.

Tapping Into The Emotional Internet

Posted on August 24, 2015

Wearing-your-emotion-on-your-sleeveTECH CRUNCH – Aug 23 – Wearables currently decipher physiological biometrics, but in the coming years, we'll see emotion-sensing wearable technology that clues us into specific human emotions. When this data is shared across networks, we'll enter the dawn of the "Emotional Internet." Much of this research and development is part of the emerging field of affective computing, which examines ways to create sensors and computers that can detect and respond to human emotions. By studying speech patterns, facial expressions, body gestures and physiological reactions to specific stimuli, researchers hope to amass a database of emotions they can train computers to recognize and interact with.

Mark Brooks: Thanks to Dr Kilpatrick at BeehiveID for sharing this article.  His comment… "It would be cool if you could get emotional feedback after a date.  I think this kind of thing is going to be really hard to measure, though." What do you think? How creepy would this be? Please comment.

Disgusting Ashley Madison Extortion Emails

Posted on August 23, 2015

Ashleymadison extortion emailOPW – Aug 23 – This email has been going out to Ashley Madison members identified in the hacker data dumps.
__

From: Ashley Madison [mailto:ash@ashleymadisondata.org]
Sent: Sun 23-Aug-15 18:00

Your data was leaked in the recent hacking of Ashley Madison and I now have your information. I have also used your profile to discover your Facebook profile, using this I now have a direct line to contact all your friends and family.

If you would like to stop me from sharing this dirt with all of your known
friends and family (and perhaps even your work too?) then you need to send exactly 1.05 bitcoins to the following BTC address.

Bitcoin Address:
[removed to protect the guilty?!]

You may be wondering why should you and what will prevent other people from doing the same, in short you now know to change your privacy settings on Facebook so no one can view your friends/family list. So go ahead and update that now (I have a copy if you don't pay) to stop any future e-mails like this.

You can buy Bitcoin's using online exchanges easily. If the Bitcoin is not paid within 3 days of 23 – August – 2015 then my system will automatically message all your friends and family. The bitcoin address is unique to YOU.

Consider how expensive a divorce lawyer is. If you are no longer in a committed relationship then think about how this will affect your social standing amongst family and friends. What will your friends and family think about you?

Sincerely,
Nunez
