Lesly Is The New Grindr For Lesbian And Bisexual Women

Posted on December 29, 2017

Lesly iconDAILYTELESCOPE – Dec 28 – Statistics show that there are more lesbian and bisexual women than gay and bisexual men. Researchers suggest that this is probably because women are more open-minded. A major study in the UK shows that women in lesbian relationships are happier than women in traditional relationships with men. The main reason is women understand each other, whereas men and women come from different planets. Dating app Lesly has invited a team of experts to contribute to the design of this app.

Posted on December 27, 2017

Patrio logoTHE DAILY DOT – Dec 26 – "You never have to endure another date with a #feminist," declares one Facebook ad for Patrio. Launched in September, Patrio is for conservatives looking to match with other Trumpy singles. Patrio's interface isn't new by any means. It's a carbon copy of Tinder. Naomi L., a co-founder of Patrio, said: "Conservative men don't want to date today's modern feminist."

OKCupid Backtracks On Its Real Names-Only Policy For Users

Posted on December 27, 2017

Okcupid tweet real namesFORTUNE – Dec 23 – Earlier this month, OKCupid announced it would ask users go by their real names. It was a move meant to control harassment and promote community on the platform, but not everyone was excited about the idea. Some users think that the change will have the opposite effect and make it easier for men, in particular, to harass women and find them off of the platform. It's also problematic for trans individuals and other marginalized groups. After a bit of backlash for the OKCupid community, this week the site backtracked, saying that users don't have to use their legal name, and instead could use the name, nickname, or initials they want to be known as on OKCupid.

Dating App Reveal Only Allows Women To Browse Through Profiles

Posted on December 27, 2017

Reveal app logoDAILYMAIL.CO.UK – Dec 25 – Reveal, a new dating app has launched in the UK that aims to put women in complete control by allowing only them to browse and swipe – anonymously. This guarantees genuine matches by preventing men from liking every profile to 'play a numbers game' – which research suggests as many as a third do. Reveal's layout is similar to the likes of Tinder and Bumble. The woman browses photos and if she's interested, she swipes right – if not, she swipes left. It is free to use and its inventors plan to make money from advertising.

Luna: New Bitcoin Powered Dating App

Posted on December 27, 2017

Luna dating appWIRED DE – Dec 23 – Frustrated with online dating, a young American Andre Ornish is developing his own dating app – Luna. Ornish believes that one of Tinder's biggest issues is the uneven distribution of attention: "Either you're overrun or ignored." The Luna developers want to prevent it by charging a fee on sending messages using the app's own currency. Luna's startup capital comes from the Ethereum Project, the platform behind the digital currency ether. The blockchain technology of Luna is therefore not directly based on Bitcoin, but on the alternative Ethereum. The app is expecting to launch at the end of January 2018.

OKCupid Will Make People Use Real Names On Their Dating Profiles

Posted on December 27, 2017

Anonymous user namesTHE VERGE – Dec 22 – OKCupid is trading its user pseudonyms for a real-name policy. The change starts with a test group, then rolls out to everyone by the end of 2018. Users will need to update their profile with real names, although OKCupid doesn't say anything about verifying identities, and the signup page currently only asks for a first name. Using real first names is standard on Tinder. But unlike Tinder, OKCupid encourages long profiles full of intimate details, including candid answers to questions about sex and politics. Users might not feel comfortable sharing that information under a real name.
