Deep Photo Analysis Has Become Part Of Online Hook-ups

Posted on July 10, 2018

Tinder swipe lefgTHE GUARDIAN – July 7 – Scouring photos for a conversation starter has become standard on Tinder, as a woman's viral post about toilet paper proves. Hana Michels, a comedian and writer from LA, who shared a screengrab of her Tinder profile to Twitter, found that a lot of men whom she matched with weren't interested in her at all but in her toilet paper holder. She had been chastised by 23 men in a year for the direction in which her toilet paper was facing. On apps like Tinder, you're expected to start a conversation with very little to go on. As such, mise-en-scene trawling has become an essential way of opening a dialogue. Tinder users admitted to scouring the backdrop for conversational fodder.

Online Ads Of Marriage Agencies Under Scrutiny

Posted on July 9, 2018

Ministry-of-gender-equalityKOREA HERALD – July 9 – The Ministry of Gender Equality and Family in South Korea will review online video advertisements by international matchmaking agencies to see if any of them incite bias or are likely to infringe on human rights. Several marriage brokers have recently been ordered by the ministry to delete ads that sexually objectify women or promote bias. Some, for instance, claim that women of certain nationalities have "nice figures" and are "simple." Those found to have violated the law will be ordered to immediately delete the ad. If they do not comply, they will be subject to criminal charges or administrative measures such as suspension of business and cancellation of business registration.

One Third Of Gay People ‘Swipe Left’ On HIV-positive Users

Posted on July 9, 2018

Hiv test1PINK NEWS – July 7 – Three in 10 lesbian, gay and bisexual (LGB) people 'swipe left' to reject people who are HIV-positive but on effective treatment, according to the latest research carried out by YouGov for sexual health charity Terrence Higgins Trust. 51% of LGB respondents do not believe that people living with HIV on effective medication can't pass it on. Today, HIV can be effectively treated to reduce the viral load in the blood to undetectable levels, meaning that it cannot be passed on. Tinder Loops Rolls Out Globally

Posted on July 6, 2018

Tinder loops screenshotsTECH CRUNCH – July 5 – Tinder Loops, the recently announced video feature from Tinder, is today rolling out globally. Tinder has been testing this feature in Canada and Sweden since April, when it was first announced, and has rolled out to a few other markets since then. Loops are two-second, looping videos that can be posted to users' profiles. Users can't shoot Tinder Loops from within the app, but rather have to upload and edit existing videos in their camera roll or upload a Live Photo from an iOS device. Users who added a Loop to their profile saw that their average conversation length went up by 20%. The feature seems to be particularly effective in Japan with users receiving an average of 10% more right swipes if they had a Loop in their profile.
