OUT – Nov 30 – Grindr's president and former CTO Scott Chen claimed marriage is a "holy matrimony between a man and a woman" in a deleted Facebook post, according to sources within Grindr. This isn't the first time Grindr's been in hot water with the LGBTQ+ community it serves: Earlier this year, reports surfaced that the app's parent company was selling data on users' HIV status to medical insurance companies. Long live queer media.
Alexa Will Soon Predict the Length of Marriage
THESUN.CO.UK – Nov 29 – Digital assistants like Alexa will soon be able to tell when a relationship is on the rocks, experts predict. By 2021 they will foresee the chances of staying together to within 75% accuracy, and by 2025 they will tell if there is sexual chemistry between couples. The devices will listen in on conversations and arguments to work out how couples are getting along. Dating tech expert Prateek Jain said: "They will act as a therapeutic resource within a relationship."

Dating App SmileBack Starts Conversations With a Smile
THE ITHACAN – Nov 29 – SmileBack dating app is centered on sending anonymous smiles. The app became available to Ithaca College students in 2013 but seems to have grown in popularity recently. ~1K people in Ithaca, including Ithaca College and Cornell University students, are currently registered on SmileBack. SmileBack shows users 4 profiles in each 24-hour cycle. The user can send an anonymous smile to just one of the four people or choose none and wait for the next day when a new set of people are displayed. When users receive anonymous smiles, they have two guesses to determine who sent them. They can choose from five people, but only one is correct. If they get it right, they can choose to send a smile back or not. If they don't guess correctly, they must wait until the next day to send more smiles and make more guesses.
Apple in Court Over 30% App Commission
BBC – Nov 29 – Apple is facing the US Supreme Court to defend the commission it makes on iPhone app sales. The company takes a 30% commission on every sale and is accused by a group of consumers of breaching anti-trust laws because there is no alternative place to buy an iPhone app. Apple is appealing against a previous decision made by a lower court. The case began in 2011 and was revived last year. Apple says if the legal action is allowed to proceed, it could affect other technology giants as well – Google and Microsoft, for example, also take 30% commission on app sales.
