Why Young Japanese Are Dating Less Than Before
DEUTSCHE WELLE – Dec 3 – Issei Izawa, a 19-year-old university student, believes that dating is "mendokusai," meaning more trouble than it's worth. The nationwide 2017 study found that ~28% of male students and ~30% of females in higher education had never been on a date. In 2005, 19.9% of male students and 17.6% of females replied that they had never been on a date. Japan's population peaked in 2010 at 127M and is presently in a slow but inexorable decline. Analysts believe the total population will fall below 100M in 2065. One-third of those people will be aged 65+. Younger women, in particular, are increasingly committed to having a career and being independent. As a consequence, they are marrying far later in life. The ubiquity of pornography available on the Internet is also likely to have an impact on young Japanese who are too shy to approach a member of the opposite sex, experts say.

Ex Tinder Worker Swipes Left on Arbitrating Harassment Suit
LAW360 – Dec 1 – Elizabeth Sanfilippo, a former Tinder employee who accused the dating app company of sexual harassment and retaliation, asked a California federal judge to keep her lawsuit in court, arguing that she is not bound by an arbitration agreement she signed almost six months after she first reported her claims to human resources. Elizabeth Sanfilippo was a brand marketing manager at Tinder from Sep 2016 to July 2017 when she says she was fired after experiencing sexual harassment. She filed suit against Tinder in August. But Tinder said the lawsuit is not appropriate, citing a mutual arbitration agreement that Sanfilippo signed in Jan 2017 while still an employee at Tinder after the company was acquired by Match. Tinder said Sanfilippo was fired for "legitimate, business and non-discriminatory reasons."
