Blockchain-based Dating Apps
OZY – Oct 10 – A growing wave of blockchain-based apps are using the distributed ledger to offer services that commit to transparency and safety. Ponder launched in 2017, and has now 70K users. Its blockchain-based service doesn't just connect people for dates; it also allows others to play matchmaker – and earn from it in cryptocurrency. Singapore-headquartered Viola.AI uses blockchain to build a global relationship registry that is transparent, open and accessible to all. The technology creates smart contracts and digital wallets for users that allow Viola.AI to verify their identity. Its AI engine tracks down common interests and backgrounds to find sharper matches than would be possible with standard dating app algorithms. DateCoin, which had its ICO in May 2018, combines neural networks and AI algorithms with blockchain to promise a more secure and transparent dating experience.
Loving or Hating Trump Is a Big Deal Breaker
DESERET NEWS – Oct 10 – According to the 2017 American Family Survey, the overwhelming majority of Americans who are married report that their spouse belongs to the same political party. Surveys from the Pew Research Center indicate people now are more likely to marry someone of a different race or religion than to cross party lines to find a husband or wife. While Conservatives Only, one of the most established platforms, launched during the Obama administration, a handful of other right-leaning online dating services have been created since. Trump Singles was released just a few months before the 2016 presidential election, but the website no longer appears to be in operation. Patrio, with a mission to "bring right-leaning individuals together" came on the scene in 2017. DonaldDaters and Righter, the newest of the bunch, were released in 2018. Righter encourages women to be ladylike and men to make the first move. Emily Moreno, the founder of Donald Daters, told Vox that anti-conservative discrimination was one of her reasons for creating the app last year. She said she once had a date walk out on her after she told him she worked on a Republican Senate campaign. There are a number of dating websites for the left-leaning singles as well, including NeverTrump.dating, a response to Trump.dating, Democratic People Meet and Liberal Hearts, which welcomes all left-leaning and progressive daters including LGBTQ people. CandiDate is a nonpartisan app that explores each user's political preferences in order to make matches based on their beliefs on issues like the environment, economy, gun reform, abortion and gay rights.

IDEA SUMMIT in Berlin Fills Within 24 Hours
IDEA – Oct 10 – The Internet Dating Excellence Association (IDEA.gp) exists to help the dating industry grow, and to help dating executives learn and share and improve their services for the benefit of their users.
I started IDEA in 2007, and we spent the first 10 years bringing dating industry leaders together socially prior to Internet Dating Conferences. Then we formalized it a couple years ago, and started running distinct gatherings. The first small gathering was IDEA WOW in Malta in November 2018. It went well, but attendees wanted more so we ran an IDEA WOW + IDEA SUMMIT in Chennai India and I co-hosted the gathering with Murugavel Janakiraman, the CEO/Founder of Matrimony, at the Matrimony.com HQ. It was a wonderful experience.
Our first European IDEA SUMMIT event will happen December 4th at the Spark Networks HQ in Berlin. I'll be cohosting with Jeronimo Folgueira, the CEO of Spark Networks. The event was released this Monday, and was full less than 24 hours later! Another small IDEA SUMMIT gathering is in the works for East Coast USA for March in 2020.
Lawsuit Filed on Behalf of Match Group Investors
ACCESSWIRE – Oct 8 – A lawsuit has been filed against Match Group, alleging that Match Group violated the federal securities laws. Interested MTCH shareholders have until December 2, 2019 to apply to be lead plaintiff.

Rad’s Lawyers File to Dismiss Defamation Lawsuit
TECH CRUNCH – Oct 9 – Last week, former Tinder CEO Greg Blatt filed a defamation lawsuit against Sean Rad and Rosette Pambakian, who are part of a group of Tinder founders and former executives who accused Blatt of sexual harassment and assault as part of a broader suit. Now Rad and Pambakian's attorneys have filed their own motion to dismiss the suit, arguing that it "seeks to chill protected speech through costly litigation" – in other words, that it's the kind of lawsuit prohibited under California's anti-SLAPP law.
