Facebook Dating Now Integrates With Instagram and Facebook Stories

Posted on November 22, 2019

Facebook dating instagram storiesTECH CRUNCH – Nov 22 – Facebook Dating users are now able to add their Facebook or Instagram Stories to Facebook Dating in order to share their everyday moments with daters. Stories can give someone better insight into what a person is like by showcasing what activities they like to engage in, their hobbies, their interests, their personality and their humor, among other things. Facebook or Instagram Stories are not automatically copied over to Facebook Dating by default. Instead, users can select which of their Stories are shared and which are not. Facebook has not disclosed how many people are using Facebook Dating at this time.

Tencent Has a New Tinder-like Dating App

Posted on November 22, 2019

Tencent QingliaoABACUS NEWS – Nov 21 – Tencent, operator of China's social network app WeChat, is ramping up its push into dating with a new Tinder-like app. Qingliao, meaning light chat in Chinese, is now allowing users to sign up when they request an invitation code on WeChat by submitting a photo and listing their occupation or school. The new app works similarly to Tinder and Tantan, but without the swiping. Users have to tap a heart or an X to anonymously like or pass on other users. When two users like each other, they're matched up and can start chatting. And unlike Tinder and Tantan, Qingliao limits the total number of profiles users can see within a certain time period. Men are shown 15 profiles every 18 hours and women can see 22.

Tinder or Bumble – The Clichés of ‘Big Dating’

Posted on November 22, 2019

Dating apps many1USA TODAY – Nov 21 – Swiping to find a date came into the cultural lexicon when Tinder launched in 2012 and revolutionized the online dating scene. "It's a game, it's fire and it's fun," said online dating consultant Mark Brooks about Tinder. Brooks said the app can skew toward audiences looking for a "casual" encounter, whereas other apps, like Hinge, tend to build more "meaningful" relationships. "Since Match Group bought Hinge, they positioned Hinge as 'long-term' and Tinder as 'casual'," Brooks says. "I always regret going on a date from Tinder," said 28-year-old Justyna Kedra, a frequent user of Hinge, Bumble and, sometimes, Tinder. "I feel that people are very transactional. There's no depth." Hinge's approach tends to focus more on getting to know someone based on their politics and religion. According to Hinge's global head of communications Jean-Marie McGrath, 99% of the app's users are college-educated. The app gained recognition when 2020 presidential candidate Pete Buttigieg publicly said that he met his partner on Hinge.

Tinder Will Support Trans Women on the App With New Protocols

Posted on November 20, 2019

Tinder logo classicBUSTLE – Nov 20 – Tinder is taking steps to protect trans users, particularly trans women, who may be targeted for complaints and harassment by cisgender app users. Tinder CEO Elie Seidman acknowledged the trans women on Tinder who have been speaking out on social media about the apparent automatic bans of trans people's profiles on the platform. These bans occur because when complaints accrue on anyone's account, the platform automatically bans the profile. But Tinder acknowledged that this policy has inadvertently impacted trans folks negatively. To address this, Tinder is going to start "redirecting these types of reports to an escalations team."
