NEW SCIENTIST – Apr 22 – AI-based algorithms can influence people to prefer a would-be partner over another, according to researchers. "Everyone is using recommendation algorithms all the time," says Helena Matute at the University of Deusto in Spain, "but there was no information on how effective those recommendation algorithms are." The researchers carried out a series of four experiments in which participants interacted with algorithms that presented them with photos of potential partners. Individuals were asked about their preference for the people whose photographs they had seen. They were more likely to want to date those who were implicitly selected.
