Ex-product Facebook Specialist Is Launching a Dating App That Uses Real Human Voices

Posted on February 23, 2022

Swoonme logoYOUR STORY – Tanvi and Rishabh Gupta launched SwoonMe in the US and India as a voice-first dating app. "It is very easy to filter and completely change the way you look in profile photos but it's hard to fake your voice. A person's voice shows emotion, personality, sociability, and so much more", Tanvi explains. Tanvi moved to the US at the age of 16, for higher education and has an MBA degree from Marquette University in Milwaukee. She worked on Wall Street with Morgan Stanley and Citi Group. She also met her husband and moved to the Bay Area – joining Facebook to work on Messenger and Instagram for three years. When the pandemic hit, she felt it was time to move on from Facebook.

Posted on February 23, 2022

Yubo logo 2019NEW YORK POST – A popular teen dating app named Yubo has come under fire after an investigation found it to be a cesspool of sexual harassment, racism and other sordid activities. "What I have heard about this site is sickening," said Chris Philp, Britain's minister for tech and the digital economy. A Times reporter spent 10 days posing as a 15-year-old on Yubo, which she noted didn't require an age verification. During her investigation, she claimed that users would frequently proposition her and ask for nude pics.

Crypto Scammers’ New Target: Dating Apps

Posted on February 23, 2022

Crypto scammersNEW YORK TIMES – Romance scams have increased in the pandemic. So have crypto prices. That has made crypto a useful entry point for criminals looking to part victims from their savings. 56K romance scams, totaling $139M in losses, were reported to the Federal Trade Commission last year. In a bulletin last fall, the Federal Bureau of Investigation's Oregon office warned that crypto dating scams were emerging as a major category of cybercrime, with ~1,800 reported cases in the first seven months of the year.
