FAST COMPANY – Malgosia Green is three months away from uprooting her life in Vancouver and fully immersing herself in Singapore as CEO of Match Group Asia. She was appointed to the newly created role earlier this year by Match Group CEO Bernard Kim. Prior to taking over as CEO of Match Group Asia, Green led Plenty of Fish for five years. Malgosia Green will be focusing on expanding the company's presence in Asia, particularly in Japan, where there is significant potential for growth. ~50% of women and 70% of men in their 20s in Japan are single, according to a 2022 white paper from the Japanese Gender Equality Bureau. Green also aims to bring the Hinge app to new Asian markets in the coming quarters. It currently operates in India. Much of Green's mission is focused on Hyperconnect, the Seoul-based social media and video tech company Match acquired in 2021 for $1.73B. Part of that development will be in AI, Green says.

Hulah: The Dating App Where Women Approve Men First
TRES-CLICK – The dating app "Hulah" allows only men approved by women to join, aiming to reduce negative experiences. Women nominate men as "boyfriend material," after which men receive a code to sign up. The app's creator, Heather Hopkins, developed the idea after her own dating struggles. The app rewards well-behaved men with "gentleman points," increasing their chances of success. While the concept has received positive reactions, some skepticism remains, as the vetting process is subjective and the financial incentives for women may be exploited.

Why Age-verification Bills Won’t Work
MASHABLE – Recently, age-verification bills for porn sites have been making headlines, but experts argue that they won't work and may even harm online privacy and free speech. Instead, they suggest better ways to protect children online. Age-verification bills, such as Louisiana's Act 440 and Utah's SB 287, require visitors to sites with a significant portion of adult content to prove their age using a commercial age-verification system (AVS). Utah has also passed two other bills, SB 152 and HB 311, which require age verification for all users on social media sites; parental permission to access social media for those under 18; and social media curfews for under-18s. These are supposed to go into effect in March 2024, but social media platforms are expected to challenge these laws beforehand. Despite good intentions, these bills have numerous issues:
- Difficult to enforce: Websites based in other countries may not comply, and users can easily bypass restrictions with VPNs.
- Privacy risks: Intrusive and ineffective AVSs may expose people's private information and browsing habits.
- Domino effect: If multiple states adopt different verification methods, it could lead to a complex and restrictive system affecting everyone online.
These bills could also negatively impact adult content creators, who already face censorship and loss of income due to similar legislation like FOSTA-SESTA. Instead of relying on age-verification bills, experts recommend parents take a more proactive approach to protect children from adult content.

QuackQuack Survey: Divorcees Get a Second Shot at Love Online

According to QuackQuack's founder and CEO, Ravi Mittal, "We currently have ~23M users, and ~12% of these people are divorcees and single parents, all taking a second shot at love. 22% of women above 30 from tier 1 cities mentioned being tired of their singlehood but find traditional dating tough. 13% of single parents prefer online over offline since it gives them a chance to mention their parental status before meeting anyone in person and avoid wasting time with people who are not interested in dating a person with a child.
