AFP – Dec 3 – The Philippine justice secretary is seeking to block Ashley Madison in the country – under charges it facilitates crime. AshleyMadison officially launched in Philippines last week. The population is largely Roman Catholic and divorce is illegal. Adultery also remains against the law in the Philippines, even though it has largely been un-enforced and is a country where many powerful men flaunt their mistresses.

Ashley Madison CEO Thinks He Is The Most Important Feminist In The World
OBSERVER – Nov 25 – “It’s sad that there are places where a woman could be put to death for being unfaithful,” said Noel Biderman. For him, facilitating discreet affairs in the Muslim world is uniquely important. “I’m one of the most important feminists that the world has seen,” he went on. Ashley Madison soft-launched in Turkey two weeks ago. The site has already signed up 15K members, 63% are female, which is a record in any country. 97% are Muslim. “Men in Turkey have no problem having affairs, although women will face shunning or complaints by neighbors,” said Jenny B. White, a Boston University Anthropology professor.

Ashley Madison’s Founder On Why Pregnancy & Cheating Go Hand-in-hand
FUSION.NET – Nov 4 – In 2001, Noel Biderman founded AshleyMadison.com, a dating site for people who are already in relationships. Biderman’s new book “First Bump” takes a look at the data of infidelity from the site and reveals some interesting findings on pregnancy. “Sex lives are turned upside down. They are turned upside down when their wives become pregnant or a first child is born and so they adjust really poorly to it.” “First Bump” is available now.

Carrot Dating: Men Bribe Their Way To A Date
QUARTZ – Sep 24 - Carrot Dating allows users to offer “bribes,” such as a tank of gas, in exchange for dates. The site was founded by Brandon Wade, the kingpin of economically-weighted dating sites, including Seeking Arrangement, What’s Your Price and Miss Travel. When Carrot Dating was launched in 2013, the media was grossed out. Apple refused to allow the apps on their products. “All dating sites are superficial in nature,” Wade said. "On Tinder, people are judging each other on their looks. If guys can leverage their biceps, why not their wallet?” On Seeking Arrangement, ~ 42% of the “sugar babies” on the site are students. 31% of sugar daddies are executives, 26% are entrepreneurs, 16% work in finance, and 33% are married.

Irena Brooks: Launching in South Korea where adultery is a punishable crime is another publicity stunt. Are they taking it a little bit too far this time? Every country has its own laws and we should respect them even if we find them absurd. If Ashley Madison is a social network that allows like minded people (he forgot to add "in committed relationship") to communicate, why would he be hurt if his wife uses the site?
Mark Brooks: AM is not a social network in any way shape or form. A social network gives visibility into peoples social networks. AM does quite the opposite in enabling privacy in the extreme. Anyway, the main point of this PR is to get people riled up and conversing. AM achieves its aim again.
AshleyMadison.com Erases All Traces Of Users’ Infidelity For $19
ARS TECHNICA – Aug 22 - Ashley Madison does let users delete their profiles for free, but if they want “Full Delete” which removes all traces of their usage, it costs $19. Ashley Madison's Hide My Profile Permanently option is the same thing as deleting a profile on most other sites. Users' identifying details will be deleted, but messages and pictures users have sent to others on the site behave like e-mail, and they can't get them back. Removing messages users sent in the past is something few other sites will do.

Ashley Madison Spied On Users
TIME – Aug 16 – In a study to be presented at the 109th Annual Meeting of the American Sociological Association in San Francisco on Saturday Aug. 16, Eric Anderson, a professor at the University of Winchester in England claims that women who seek extra-marital affairs usually still love their husbands and are cheating instead of divorcing, because they need more passion. “It is very clear that our model of having sex and love with just one other person for life has failed— and it has failed massively,” says Anderson. This information was gathered after the company secretly analyzed more than 4K private conversations that 100 women were having on the site, a practice users agree to by accepting the terms and conditions upon registration.
