More Locals Hunt For Romance Online
WSJ – Aug 5 - Residents of San Francisco, San Jose and Oakland surged onto online personals websites over the past year, according to comScore. Visits to online dating sites from the Bay Area soared 22% to 544,000 in May 2010 from 447,000 a year earlier. In contrast, visits nationally to online dating sites increased at a lesser rate 15% in the same period. Part of the increase was likely driven by the emergence of new free dating sites such as Plentyoffish.com and Zoosk, says comScore senior director of industry analysis Andrew Lipsman. Online dating sites such as Match.com, eHarmony and Perfectmatch.com say they didn't notice any major shifts in online dating trends in the region. The sites say, the average profile of their members is typically older than the rest of their membership. According to Perfectmatch.com, 79% of its Bay Area members are more than 30 years old, compared with an average of 68.5% nationally. eHarmony also found its Bay Area daters tended to be slightly older, and Match.com said the average age of its San Francisco members is 38. Online Dating Offers Meeting Convenience
UK NETGUIDE – June 28 – A study conducted by the Scientific Research
Centre shows that, in the UK, women tend to use online dating sites
more frequently than men. Their reasons for turning to the internet are
to do more with expediency than anything else and back a trend seen in
other western nations. In countries where online dating is popular,
such as Australia, Canada and the US, figures indicate more men than
women look online for love. Englishmen have an international public
perception of being charming, well-spoken romantics. This appears to
have spread to online dating sites as well where many are thought to
not only be witty, but gifted talkers. However, this view seems to be
only exclusive to women from outside the UK as females in the country
have an entirely different opinion, according to the Scientific
Research Centre. FULL ARTICLE @ UK NETGUIDE

Mark Brooks: The real story here is the continued dominance of RIM.
There will be a real battle between the top three vendors over the next
12 months, and this makes it challenging for dating sites to identify a
way through the rapidly changing mobile landscape. Courtland Brooks
has recently produced a white paper that outlines the strategic issues
for dating sites when considering mobile dating options. It goes live
on Thursday 17th June, but we’re looking for early feedback on the
whitepaper. So please email me at mark@courtlandbrooks.com if you’d like an early peak at it.
