Gay Dating App Blued Bags Investment From China’s State-run Media

Blued logoTECHNODE – Feb 8 – China's attitude toward GLBT community is improving. Chinese gay chat and hook-up app Blued has sealed eight-digit RMB strategic funding from the investment arm of The Beijing News, a state-backed newspaper group. Blued now supports 13 languages and has set up offices in Thailand, Vietnam, and the U.K. In December last year, Blued made a strategic investment with U.S. dating app Hornet in an attempt to make forays into North American and Latin American markets. The company is recording profits now thanks to thriving live streaming and mobile marketing businesses.

Bharatmatrimony logo June 13THE SIASAT DAILY – Jan 24 – BharatMatrimony recently conducted a survey to find out what people look for when searching for a life partner, in which 13,859 participants shared their opinions. 87% of females said look is important, while 93% men said looks do matter. 53% women said they prefer a professionally qualified partner. However, only 17% of men were looking for a professionally qualified bride. 65% girls were looking for a partner with age difference of up to four years while 54% men preferred up to four years and 26% men preferred "above five years".

The MeetMindful app officially launched in June 2015 after they successfully demoed their prototype in Denver and Boulder. They gained major traction in 2016 and went through Techstars in Spring 2016. Since then, user growth and revenue generation have been growing quickly with over 180k registered users, 4k daily active users, and ~$1M in revenue to date. They have raised over $1.075M in their current round and are still accepting investors to oversubscribe. They have so far secured ~$2M.

These unveil one by one as more and more messages are exchanged. Max came up with this idea after using Tinder unsuccessfully. The app launched in Beta on Valentine's Day 2016. The company is hoping to complete another investment round of £1M in July/August 2017 to take the app UK wide and into US and Europe.

Gay Dating App Hornet Raises $8M

Hornet logo June 16VENTURE BEAT – Nov 22 – Hornet has raised $8M in its first round of institutional financing. The Series A round was led by Shanghai-based VC firm Ventech China, and adds to the $500k angel round Hornet raised back in 2012. Hornet says that the cash will be used to "support rapid business growth and user adoption" around the world. Ventech China participated in the Series C round of China's gay dating app Blued in June this year. Blued is big in Asia, and has claimed to be twice as big as Grindr.

The funds, which bring its total capital to $57.5M, will be used to further expand Paktor's product portfolio into social entertainment arena. Paktor is Asia's Tinder. The app launched in 2013 and claims to have 20M users.
