DUA AG Acquires Gen Z Dating App IRLY

VANCOUVER TECH JOURNAL – Switzerland-based DUA AG has acquired the IRLY (I Really Like You) brand, including its trademark and IP, in an all-cash asset deal. Founded in Vancouver by Connor Rose, Laura Rollock, and Cameron Dallas, IRLY positioned itself as a Gen Z, personality-first alternative to swipe-based dating apps. The acquisition adds IRLY to DUA AG’s growing portfolio, which includes Albanian dating app dua.com (2019) and hyper-local platform Spotted.de (acquired 2022), as the group expands its niche, youth-focused dating brands.

LINKEDIN – With the launch of dua.com 5.0, the Albanian dating app is making a clear break from swipe-based dating. The platform is now designed for users seeking long-term relationships, with mandatory liveness verification, regular removal of inactive profiles, and tighter controls on fake or low-effort behaviour. Launched during COVID and now used by ~1.1M people globally, dua.com is repositioning itself around intentional, serious dating rather than casual matching.

Albanian Dating App dua.com Turns Five

Dua.com logoLINKEDIN – dua.com launched five years ago, built in 100 days during COVID by a newly formed team. It now has ~1.1M Albanian users and is the leading Albanian dating app globally. The app has seen ~5M active conversations in the past two years, with an average of 58 people per day deleting the app after finding a partner. In 2024, it received 18K ratings with a 4.3 average and passed 1B views on social media. Revenue grew from zero in 2020 to $2.37M in 2023 and $3.16M in 2024. Despite major challenges, such as cash shortages, co-founder exits, technical and cultural hurdles, the company remains active and also acquired Spotted, a dating app for missed connections with ~5M registered users.

Dua.com’s Year of Growth: User and Revenue Surge

Dua.com logoLINKEDIN – In 2023, dua.com, a dating app focused on international migrants and diaspora communities, notably increased its operational and financial metrics. The company raised a total of $4.9M through Seed and Series A funding rounds. It saw a 250% growth in app users, reaching 1.4M, alongside a 250% increase in Annual Recurring Revenue to $4.2M. The team expanded to 73 members, reflecting a 59% growth.

Study: Smokers Get Half as Many Matches on Dating Apps Compared to Non-Smokers

SmokerNOW TORONTO – A recent study by Dua.com found that smokers receive 52.7% fewer matches on dating apps compared to non-smokers. The research analyzed ~460K users and revealed that non-smoking females received 63.6% more matches than female smokers, while 48.4% of users preferred non-smoking males. The study also discovered that young adults aged 18 to 24, who were the most active smokers, received 48% fewer matches compared to non-smokers in the same age group.

Swiss Startup dua.com Starts Their Token Sale on the AllianceBlock Fundrs Platform

Dua FundrsNEWSDIRECT – Dua Token is the first Seeker startup to launch a funding round on AllianceBlock's peer-to-peer participatory funding platform, Fundrs. Their token sale started on Nov 23rd. AllianceBlock launched Fundrs, a peer-to-peer funding platform, on Avalanche and Ethereum Mainnet networks in August. Fundrs allows blockchain-based projects and traditional startups to receive funding from the platform's users. After raising $4M in a Series A round, Dua plans to tokenize its 5M+ users through cryptocurrencies and decentralized technologies.

Dua.com Buys Spotted.de and Closes $4M Series A Round

It started by reconnecting Albanians, its first globally fragmented community with a large diaspora. With an initially small team, dua.com joined numerous incubators in Europe and the U.S., namely the Harvard Innovation Labs, Uplift Europe, and Innovation Centre Kosovo. dua.com connects international migrants, expats, and diaspora communities. It has acquired the German dating app 'Spotted.de', and combined the platforms – dua.com and Spotted.de – have 5M registered users. The company completed Seed and Series A rounds, raising a total of $4.9M.

Dua.com, the Dating App for Albanians, Faces Privacy Accusations

Duacom logo 2021WATSON – July 12 – A Swiss start-up that operates Dua.com, a Europe-wide dating app for Albanians, is confronted with data protection issues. Dua.com has been installed ~350K times so far. It was developed by a start-up run by the Eastern Swiss entrepreneur Valon Asani, who now operates from Zurich and Kosovo's capital Prishtina. Dua.com is designed for people of Albanian origin, and a Romanian version of the app is coming soon. Most recently the company has encountered data protection issues. Some users accused the app of sharing their data with third parties for marketing purposes. Mr Asani said he was serious about data protection. Dua.com has appointed a data protection officer which is required by law when "particularly sensitive data" is processed.

They're proving out their app in Albania but then they've been on the prowl for partners to expand to other countries with considerable portions of their natives who form as diaspora around the world. They're uniting diaspora in their apps. Brilliant. We've seen World Singles do something similar in the past with Eligible Greeks and Iranian Personals. Now Dua is following a similar path. Starting with Albanians, and now Romanians. They just announce that they have a partner helping them to expand into Romania (see news). I interviewed CEO/Founder Valon Asani. – Mark Brooks

How is Dua different from the likes of other matchmaking and online dating apps? What is your focus?
260 million people are living outside the country they were born in. We are on a mission to revolutionize the way how globally fragmented communities connect with each other. Our focus is not only in niche markets, but we have a hyper-focus on niche markets with a huge diaspora. Why is Romania your next partner-vertical?
Romania is a super interesting market, over 26 million people and 6.6 million Romanians living in the diaspora. In Europe, Romania is the third largest remittance recipient. The diaspora is well connected and sends over 4 billion Euro yearly back to the home country. 10% yearly growth in social media users. The country is investing billions in digitalization. A perfect match for our matchmaking technology with our local partners in Romania.
