The summit will convene HIV/AIDS policy experts and LGBTQ+ community leaders to provide feedback on the recent changes made to Grindr's privacy policy and to develop a set of guiding principles that could be adopted industry-wide to ensure protection and transparency for social app users who self-disclose sexual health information. The full list of participants, official date and agenda will be announced in the weeks leading up to the October 2018 summit.

Grindr Announces ‘Kindr’ Version To Be Released In Sep 2018
PINK NEWS – July 28 – Grindr has hinted at a new version of the app which will tackle the racism and bullying on the platform. The dating site tweeted a cryptic video with a voiceover discussing racism, which says: "When someone says something like I don't date black people, that's all black people, that's what I refer to as sexual racism." It also tweeted a link to a website called kindr.grindr.com, which currently only has the voiceover and the tagline: "It's time to play nice." The site's vague announcement comes just days after model and activist Munroe Bergdorf called on the company to address hate speech.
Grindr Sets Up Office In Taiwan
E27 – July 18 – "Taiwan is the first nation in Asia to legalize gay marriage," said the Grindr's CTO Scott Chen Jun-yang, who will head Grindr's office in Taiwan. The company, which has 40M registered users worldwide, has just opened an office in the Xinyi Breeze Center. Chen is currently recruiting software engineers.
Asian Man Is Bringing A Class Action Against Grindr For Allowing Racial Discrimination
THEGAYUK – July 10 – A man is planning to sue the gay dating app, Grindr, for racial discrimination and is looking for co-plaintiffs across the US's fifty states so that he can bring a class action. Sinakhone Keodara, the CEO and founder of the Asian Entertainment Television company says that Grindr allows "white gay men to write in their profiles 'no Asians', 'not interested in Asians' or 'I don't find Asians attractive'," which he says, leads to people feeling "offended, humiliated, degraded and dehumanised" by the app.

Grindr’s Publication ‘INTO’ Launches LA Production Studio For LGBTQ+ Creators
BILLBOARD – June 14 – INTO, dating app Grindr's digital publication, has opened up a production studio in Los Angeles' West Hollywood neighborhood, as part of a new initiative to provide LGBTQ+ content creators alternative route to mainstream publishing platforms. Videographers, advertisers, and other media companies can produce photos and videos. INTO will not charge the creators but reserves the right to publish the videos on its own site. That way, the publication can sell ad space on these videos.
Grindr And Other Dating Apps Are Discussing Ways To Add STD Notifications
MASHABLE – May 31 – Grindr and other gay dating apps are exploring ways to add the ability for people who test positive for an STD to notify partners using the app. Jack Harrison-Quintana, director of Grindr for Equality said, "Grindr works very closely with Building Healthy Online Communities on several initiatives including STD related notifications." Grindr recently launched several features around HIV testing reminders and HIV status sharing. The app Adam4Adam already includes a link on its Health Resources page to "STD notification services for partners and tricks," which directs to InSpot.org. Daddyhunt plans to release a new version of its app this summer that will include an option to log the date of a user's last STD test, and receive testing reminders every three months. Daddyhunt's General Manager, Casey Crawford, said that it is also in preliminary discussions about including partner STD notification resources as part of an upcoming user interface redesign.

Gay And Bisexual Teens Are Using Grindr To Find Friends And Relationships
PINKNEWS – May 21 – The study by Northwestern University, and published in the Journal of Adolescent Health, found that 50% of teenage boys aged 14 – 17 are using apps like Grindr to look for more than just sex. The research was carried out using online surveys completed by 200 sexually experienced teenage boys in the US. The study also concluded that teenage boys using apps Grindr and Scruff are more likely to access sexual health services, like HIV testing.

Grindr Says Its Role Is Like A Public Forum
BLOOMBERG – Apr 5 – Gay dating app Grindr sent sensitive user data including HIV status, location and email to at least two third-party services. Grindr said the data sharing is "standard" in the industry and pointed out the company considers its app a "public forum." Grindr also suggested that if users didn't want their data being shared with these companies, they shouldn't have volunteered it. "It's important to remember that Grindr is a public forum," CTO Chen said in the statement.
