Grindr Tests Bot-to-Bot Dating as AI Moves Deeper Into Matchmaking

Posted on October 19, 2026
Grindr Tests Bot-to-Bot Dating

CNN – Dating apps are moving beyond AI-written profiles and messages towards automating parts of the dating process itself. Grindr is testing bot-to-bot conversations that could vet potential dates before users speak, while Bumble is developing AI-driven matchmaking and Hinge is adding AI tools for profile creation and conversation starters. Newer apps Amata, Sitch, and Ditto are taking another approach, using detailed questionnaires and AI to narrow users down to a smaller pool of matches rather than endless swiping.

Hinge Wants to re-educate Bad Daters Instead of Banning Them

Hinge wants to re-educate bad daters instead of banning them

MASHABLE – Hinge will now give some users a second chance after minor harassment violations. Instead of an immediate ban, they must complete a short lesson on appropriate messaging before using the app again. Human moderators will decide which cases qualify. Serious or repeated offences will still result in a permanent ban.

Match Group CEO Spencer Rascoff: Tinder’s Turnaround Is About People

Posted on October 14, 2026
Tinder Events

BIGGO FINANCE – Match Group CEO Spencer Rascoff discussed Tinder’s turnaround on the In Good Company podcast with Nicolai Tangen. He said the company had become too focused on short-term revenue and had stopped innovating. During his first year, he visited all 12 offices, cleared Tinder’s product roadmap and restarted its internship programme. The company is building more social features for Gen Z, which makes up ~60% of Tinder and Hinge users. Rascoff said younger singles prefer meeting in groups and through low-pressure activities. Tinder Events operates in 25 cities and is expected to reach 75+ by year-end. Double Date is used by ~25% of Gen Z users in the US and nearly half in Norway. Match Group has ~2,000 employees and operates in ~200 countries. Tinder is the leading dating app in 166 markets. Rascoff said free users remain essential because they create the large dating pool needed for the apps to work. He does not expect expensive matchmaking tiers to become a major source of revenue.

US Congressional Report Examines Match Group’s Response to Romance Scams

Posted on October 13, 2026

NBC NEWS – A year-long investigation by the US Congress Joint Economic Committee examined how Match Group handles romance scams across Tinder, Hinge, and its other dating platforms. It found that some of Tinder’s fraud-detection models had not been updated for several years. In Q3 2025, ~1.5M suspected scammers or other bad actors on Tinder and Hinge matched with users, while ~500K exchanged contact details. Match Group has since introduced new detection models, added 169 automated rules, and improved 108 existing ones. Tinder and Hinge now require biometric face checks for new users, helping prevent banned users from returning under new accounts. Match Group said these measures have reduced exposure to bad actors by ~60%. The committee welcomed the progress but said continued investment would be needed as scam tactics evolve.

FORBES INDIA – Hinge has an estimated 1.47M users in India, making it the app’s third-largest market by user numbers. India also generates its second-highest volume of downloads after the US, despite Hinge doing little local marketing during its ten years in the country. Hinge plans to begin marketing in India for the first time later this month, supported by new safety features developed for the market. CEO Jackie Jantos said the company expects further growth beyond its current concentration in Delhi, Mumbai, and other major cities.

Former Hinge Executive Launches AI Astrology App Lora

Posted on September 28, 2026
Lora

BUSINESS INSIDER – Michelle Parsons, a former Hinge executive and co-founder of queer social app Lex, has launched Lora, a social astrology app backed by pre-seed investor AlleyCorp. Its AI chatbot uses birth charts to offer advice on relationships and personal development, while users can also book human astrologers, tarot readers, and coaches. Parsons said the aim is to help users recognise patterns in their lives rather than simply give them the answers they want to hear.

Hinge Takes Aim at the Growing ‘Closeness Crisis’

Posted on September 25, 2026

HINGE – Hinge says technology has created more digital interaction without making people feel closer, a problem it calls the “closeness crisis.” The company is holding its first Heads Up conference to bring together researchers, founders, and community groups to discuss healthier technology. Hinge argues that products should be measured by real-world outcomes rather than screen time.

Video: Interview With Match Group CEO, Spencer Rascoff

Posted on September 21, 2026
Match Group

FAST COMPANY – Match Group CEO Spencer Rascoff discussed the company’s turnaround plans in an interview with Fast Company. He said Match’s brands previously managed their own advertising, but the company has now brought those teams together. A single team manages ~$600M in annual ad spending across ~20+ brands. Match is also combining parts of the technology used by its apps, making it easier to introduce the same features across several products. Rascoff said ~60% of Tinder and Hinge users are under 28. Tinder is trying to appeal to these users with Double Date, group matching and in-person events. Double Date is used by ~25% of Gen Z users in the US and close to 50% in some European markets. Match has also adjusted its recommendation systems to prioritise conversations with at least six exchanges, which it calls “sparks.” Rascoff said AI can help with safety, matching and communication advice, but should not write messages or speak on behalf of users.

Podcast With Hinge’s CEO and CMO

Posted on September 17, 2026
Hinge

FORBES – Hinge CEO Jackie Jantos and CMO Tamika Young appeared on the FROM THE CULTURE podcast to discuss how the company’s focus on long-term relationships affects its products, hiring, and use of data. They highlighted Match Note, a private message developed with TransTech Social that lets users share personal details or dealbreakers after matching. Hinge also measures success by whether users go on dates and eventually leave the app, rather than how long they remain active.
