THE NEXT WEB – May 9 – Bumble has recently introduced AI to automatically censor unsolicited dick pics to make online dating for women a safer and friendlier space. Starting in June, users of dating apps including Bumble, Badoo, Chappy, and Lumen will have access to the AI-based tool "Private Detector." The tool, which allegedly has a 98% accuracy in spotting nudes, will warn users of an image it deems as "lewd" or offensive. "Putting women's safety first is out top priority," says Louise Troen, Bumble's VP of Internal Marketing and Communications in the UK. "We have 1000s of moderators, all around the world, looking for it. AI is built into Bumble that can monitor and find images like this."

Badoo & Bumble’s “Private Detector” Uses AI to Detect Dick Pics
TECH CRUNCH – Apr 25 – "Private Detector" feature will identify inappropriate photos and label them as such in chat, giving users the option to view the photo or report the user. Badoo CEO Andrey Andreev opted to have his team build the tech in-house. The company claims 98% accuracy. This feature fits into something Bumble CEO Whitney Wolfe Herd has been promoting – safe online dating for women with less harassment. Wolfe Herd has started approaching the issue of unsolicited illicit photos from a legislative track as well. She has been working with the Texas state legislature to pass a bill that makes it illegal to send clearly unsolicited lewd photos. The "Private Detector" functionality goes live in June on Bumble as well as on Badoo, Chappy and Lumen.

Lumen – The New App for Over 50s
DAILYMAIL.CO.UK – Feb 13 – Dating second time round can be both daunting and bewildering for many. Launched in September, dating app Lumen hit the headlines immediately. ~250K singles have signed up, making it the most popular app for over-50s in the UK. "The over-50s have been neglected by dating sites for years," says expert and founder of Lumen – Charly Lester. So, given 7.5M over 50s in Britain are single, divorced or widowed, Charly decided to invent the first over-50s app. For their ads, they used a photo of a real-life model, Paul Orchard (age 58), to show mature daters can be sexy and have a sense of fun. Most dating services aimed at fiftysomethings started as websites used on a home computer (eharmony and Our Time) or matchmaking agencies. The feeling was that 'mature daters' wouldn't find apps easy to navigate. But now 73% of those aged 50 to 59 own a smartphone, Charly thinks they're ready to embrace the technology. Lumen is clearly designed and simple to operate.

Crafted by Sarah Russell, a writer from Monmouthshire, she says that loosely translated it means "believe in love after 50 because it's as joyful now as it ever was." She was initially inspired by the longest place name in Wales – which is Llanfairpwll (in its short form) on Anglesey. The village's full name is Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch.
