Dear Match.com, Why Make Me Create A Fake Profile?

Posted on April 26, 2011

Match logo new OPW – Apr 26 – IDEA is building a panel of internet dating power users.  Here's feedback from one of our friendly internet dating power users.
___

I should be able to turn "off" letting someone know I "viewed" their profile or "saved it" as a favorite so I don't have to have an alternative "fake" profile to do my searching and favoriting. Maybe I don't want someone to know I looked at their profile or saved it.  Me (and my friends)  browse and "look" with fake profiles.  Then when I'm interested I email them with my real profile.  No wonder there's so many fake profiles, a lot of people figured out this is the only way to do it.

I thought it was supposed to be 'ok to look.'

I need anonymous browsing. People would PAY EXTRA for features like this. I know women that won't even look at or read a guys profile if they don't like the headshot because they think if the guy sees they looked at their profile, they'll think it shows interest, when all she did was LOOK.

States Seek To Make It Safer To Find Love Online

Posted on April 21, 2011

Paragraf AP – Apr 21 – Amid accounts of sex offenders using dating sites to find victims, lawmakers in several states are trying to pass legislation to help make online daters more aware of the potential pitfalls of the process. Bills are pending in Connecticut and Texas. Connecticut's bill requires Internet dating sites to provide a safety awareness notice during registration. Similar laws are already on the books in Florida and New Jersey. The Texas legislation requires online dating services to clearly disclose to customers whether they conduct criminal background checks. Match.com said Sunday that it will begin screening its users against the national sex offender registry.

Dear Match.com, Why Hide Profiles Of People I’m Talking To?

Posted on April 19, 2011

This aggravates the hell out of me is…. I emailed a woman and she emailed me back but because she was getting flooded with emails from a 100 guys she "hid" her profile so now even the guys she's already corresponding with (me) can't see it. That's ridiculous! How are you supposed to get a good exchange going if all your seeing is a headshot of a hidden profile? I like to refer back to it and ask about an interest etc… This is common sense. If you're in an ongoing email exchange with someone you should be able to view their profile whether it's hidden from search results or not, like on PlentyOfFish.

Match.com Will Begin Screening Its Users Against Sex Offender Registry

Posted on April 18, 2011

Match logo new ASSOCIATED PRESS – Apr 17 – Match.com will begin screening its users against the national sex offender registry after a woman filed a lawsuit against the company saying she had been assaulted by someone she met through Match.com. Mandy Ginsberg, president of Match.com, said the company had considered such screenings for years, but “their historical unreliability has always led us to conclude against it." “We want to stress that while these checks may help in certain instances, they remain highly flawed, and it is critical that this effort does not provide a false sense of security to our members", she said. Match said it expected to be able to implement the policy in 60 to 90 days.

Mark Brooks: This is MAJOR NEWS for the internet dating industry. The industry has only been considering background checks for the last 7 years, since TRUE launched them in 2004! 7 years! on Match is finally drawing a line in the sand.  Other dating sites will need to step up to the line. Free dating sites and social networks won't be offering background checks. Paid sites will need to in order to compete with Match. Your comments please..

Dear Match.com, What Have You Done With Headlines?

Posted on April 14, 2011

New profile layout on Match with Small font headline with picture removed OPW – Apr 14 – IDEA is building a panel of internet dating power users. Here's feedback from one of our friendly internet dating power users.
___

Hey Mark, Match has been experimenting for awhile on some profiles with a new layout which is worse than the old one but they finally changed over to it. Can you you believe they would go with a layout where the "HEADLINE" is in smaller fonts than everything else on the page? (see enclosed pic)  Do they know what the word "headline" means? A headline is supposed to be A HEADLINE. Look at a newspaper, how many headlines are 10 or more words? The layout was better before. Now it's just more clicks to accomplish the same thing.

Woman Files Civil Suit Against Match.com Following Sexual Attack

Posted on April 14, 2011

Lawsuit picture EXAMINER – Apr 14 – Jane Doe was sexually assaulted by another Match.com member, Alan Paul Wurtzel. It turns out that Wurtzel had been convicted for sexual battery on six different occasions. The suit seeks a temporary restraining order requesting no more members be signed up for Match.com until there's a means to weed out sexual predators. According to her attorney, the woman wants Match.com to screen members' names against public sex offender registries.

Mark Brooks: How ridiculous! Background checks are far from foolproof. Social networks aren't forced to use them, and dating sites should not be forced either. I'm a fan of dating sites using background checks. But I'm not a fan of them being legislated into the industry. TRUE uses them; a basic Rapsheeets/Choicepoint check of felons and sex offendors. I'm not aware of any other sizable sites that use them. Matchmakers often use them as a differentiating feature against their idating brethren.

How You Meet Your Spouse Matters

Posted on April 12, 2011

Eharmony-logo EHARMONY BLOG – Feb 10 – Online dating has become the third most-popular way for newlyweds to have met over the past five years. Lately we’ve been asking ourselves a basic question: Does where you meet your spouse make a difference in how happy the marriage is and if the relationship lasts? It turns out that eHarmony couples are more satisfied with their marriages than those who met on Match.com, via friends or family, or at a bar/social event, according to eHarmony study. People who met on eHarmony were 66.6% less likely to get divorced, those who met through school were 41.1% less likely to get divorced, those who met through some other means were 16% more likely to get divorced, and those who met at a bar were 24% more likely to get divorced.
