Huggle Survey: Tinder Is Making People Self-conscious

Posted on July 4, 2016

Huggle logoBUSINESS INSIDER – July 2 – A new survey, carried out by social app Huggle, has found that 62% of people say dating apps like Tinder make them feel self-conscious and depressed about their appearance. Huggle doesn't use "face-swiping" and matches people based on the locations they go to. It works in a similar way to French dating app Happn. Huggle has received investment from Andrey Andreev, the Russian entrepreneur who cofounded dating app and social network Badoo. Huggle was founded by model Stina Sanders and gardening blogger Valerie Stark.

“Power Pose” – The Best Body Language To Use In Online Dating Profile

Posted on July 1, 2016

Man on pool floatBUSINESS INSIDER – July 1 – HBS professor Amy Cuddy saw her now husband for the first time on Facebook. She noticed his photo because he was positioned "in the most extreme 'power pose' imaginable." "Power pose" is a term that Cuddy coined in her 2012 TED Talk, and it describes an expansive posture that can make you feel more powerful and confident. Research suggests that we're more attracted to people in expansive – as opposed to contracted – postures, even if we don't consciously realize it.

Why Women Should Make The First Move

Posted on June 30, 2016

Bumble whitney wolfe2BUSINESS INSIDER – June 30 – In a recent interview on the Girlboss Radio podcast, Whitney Wolfe discussed what motivated her to found Bumble, a dating app where only women can initiate the first move. On Match.com only ~18% of emails between straight women and straight men are initiated by women. In the most recent "Singles in America" survey, ~90% of men said they're comfortable with a woman asking them out. According to a recent OkCupid study, women who make the first move can wind up with more attractive partners than women who wait for men to ask them out. That's because women generally message men who are five points more attractive than they are, while they typically receive messages from men who are seven points less attractive.

Dating Apps With Highest % Of Women

Posted on June 4, 2016

BUSINESS INSIDER – Jun 3 – SurveyMonkey Intelligence looked at the numbers to see which dating apps have the highest proportion of women. Christian Mingle scored the top spot, with women-friendly apps like Coffee Meets Bagel and Bumble also scoring high. Tinder and Happn ranked lower, while, unsurprisingly, gay app Grindr fell in last place.

Survey monkey graph 1They also looked at what % users engage with an app on a daily basis. The results were, in many cases, completely flipped (Grindr and Happn were on top). Men are much more "engaged."

Match Group Has Managed To Prevent Tinder ‘Cannibalising’ Its Other Dating Sites

Posted on May 7, 2016

Match group jan 16BUSINESS INSIDER – May 5 – Some investors and analysts had been worried about users being shifted from one Match-owned app or site to Tinder. Tinder is hugely popular – Match reported that it has 1M members of its paid "Tinder Plus" tier that offers extra features. However, Match's earnings showed that the company has managed to avoid cannibalisation by growing Tinder's rivals as well as the app itself.

Money Transfer App TransferWise Refused 3nder Business

Posted on April 1, 2016

3nder screenshotsBUSINESS INSIDER – Mar 31 – The CEO of a polyamorous dating app 3nder is accusing TransferWise of 'double standards' for refusing him service. TransferWise is known for its provocative publicity stunts. Burner Phone Number: A Must-have Online Dating Tool

Posted on March 31, 2016

Burnerapp screenshotBUSINESS INSIDER – Mar 30 – In 2012 Greg Cohn and his co-founder Will Carter were building an app that could show when people were available to talk. Instead of posting a personal number to Twitter to show you could talk, the app had a burner feature where a fake number could be created and disappear right after the person used it. The "talk when you're available" app idea floundered, but Cohn's friends latched onto the idea of discarding a phone number. It's also turned out to be a great tool for dating. Now, 44% of its users have created a burner number for online dating.
