One-third of the Latest Chinese Mobile Apps Banned by India Are Dating Apps
BUSINESS INSIDER – Nov 24 – The Indian government has banned another 43 Chinese apps from operating in India. Fifteen of these apps are dating services, including lesbian social network, Rela, AsianDate, DateMyAge, etc. The Indian government may be wary of Indian Army soldiers or officials being 'honey trapped'. Honey trapping is when agents from a foreign country pose as a pretty, young woman to seduce unsuspecting targets into inadvertently sharing confidential information.
There Is a Dating App For Tesla Owners
BUSINESS INSIDER – Aug 21 – A techie in Canada is launching a dating app exclusively for owners of Tesla cars. It is called Tesla Dating. The idea came about after app creator Ajitpal Grewal noticed that Tesla owners couldn't stop talking about their cars. The app is still in the "early stages" of development. Since launching the website last week, ~160 people have signed up for the app's waitlist.
More People Are Having Virtual Affairs as Covid-19 Pandemic Wears On
BUSINESS INSIDER – July 15 – Coronavirus pandemic-related stress is a risk factor that could drive people to cheat, according to two University of Tennessee Knoxville psychologists. Kristina Coop Gordon and Erica A. Mitchell said pandemic-related stress is straining relationships, driving people onto dating apps. According to data Gordon and Mitchell obtained from a dating site for married people (they didn't disclose which site), 17K new people have signed up for the services every day during the pandemic. This compares to the 1,500 daily new member sign-ups in 2019.
More People Are Talking About Politics on Dating Apps
INSIDER – July 15 – But a majority of people find it to be a huge turn off according to a new survey by Dating.com. The platform saw a 43% increase in users discussing politics. However, over half said they would consider ghosting someone if they brought up politics. 84% of respondents said they would never consider dating someone with opposing political views. The company surveyed 2K of its members in the US.

India’s Matrimony Portals Come of Age With Video Calls and Zoom Call Weddings
BUSINESS INSIDER – June 28 – Matrimonial sites such as Shaadi.com, Bharat Matrimony and Jeevansaathi.com took arranged marriage setup online many years ago. Now, they came up with new solutions – video call meet-ups and zoom call weddings. Potential bride and grooms are now meeting each other for the first time over a video call. Shaadi.com launched Shaadi Meet – a video calling feature on its platform on June 19. Within two days, 105K people had used the feature. The platform has also launched 'weddings from home' for online marriages. Jeevansathi.com saw a 60% increase in the number of voice and video calls in the lockdown period as compared to the 11-week prior average. Keeping safety in mind, Shaadi.com allows users to set their convenient time to receive a Meet Request and can also decide who can invite them for a Meet. Meanwhile, Bharatmatrimony which launched the feature on June 18, kept it exclusively for premium members. Women can only receive video calls from Premium Members they contacted or responded to earlier.

Some Dating App’s Users Are Trying to Get People to Violate Social Distancing
BUSINESS INSIDER – May 9 – Tinder, Bumble, and Hinge have reported increased use amid the coronavirus pandemic, while touting virtual dating alternatives for users instead of meeting up in person. Swaths of users are still encouraging matches to break quarantine to have sex and go on dates. Artist Samantha Rothenberg, who uses the handle @violetclair on Instagram, has been collecting these screenshots from followers, and said she's received close to a thousand of such stories. She has long collected screenshots of users' horror stories from dating app interactions, which she often will depict in illustrations she posts to her Instagram account. But now, nearly all of the screenshots she's received have had to do with coronavirus.

Single Democrats Would Not Consider Being in a Committed Relationship With a Trump Voter
BUSINESS INSIDER – Apr 28 – 71% of single Democrats would not consider dating someone who voted for Donald Trump, according to a new Pew Research Center survey. Only 47% of Republican and right-leaning respondents said they wouldn't consider dating someone who voted for Hillary Clinton. The most online dating users think political alignment is a "crucial" piece of information about potential partners.
