Spiritual Profile Crucial To Many Seeking Romance

Posted on February 14, 2012

Christian mingleHUFFINGTON POST – Feb 14 – For some people a potential mate’s religious profile is the most important of all. “God has a match for you," claims a Christian dating site called Christian Mingle. Shaadi.com, a site for the South Asian community, breaks it down even further — first between Hindus, Muslims, Buddhists, Sikhs, Jains and others, and then among caste and background. Statistics seem to support this, with interfaith marriages having a slightly higher rate of ending in divorce. "It's about a baseline of comfort," explained one gay Jewish man who used J-Date in his search for a partner.

Rochelle Peachey: Transatlantic Matchmaker

Posted on February 10, 2012

Iloveyouraccent logoHUFFINGTON POST – Feb 9 – At age 45, Rochelle Peachey seized the idea that she'd been dreaming about and ran with it. She took to the web and launched ILoveYourAccent.com, a dating site that bridges the continental divide by bringing Brits and Americans together. "I brought in a web designer," she says, "but I didn't have $50,000 to hire a P.R. company. So I started blogging and posting on forums. Just before Valentine's Day, 2010, Rochelle got an invitation to talk about her website on the London TV show BBC Breakfast. "Within 20 minutes of the time I was on the air, people were signing up." Word started to spread, and today ILoveYourAccent.com has 10K members, nine marriages and three babies. Rochelle also finds herself occasionally doubling as a dating coach, interpreting the cultural differences that can sometimes get lost in translation.

Posted on November 8, 2011

Genepartner logo newHUFFINGTON POST – Nov 8 - A Swiss company called GenePartner has developed a biological matching system using your human leukocyte antigen, or HLA, genes to find your perfect match. The company works with several dating sites around the world–Sense2love and Eventful Dating to name two–and tests interested people by mail. You get a couple of Q-tips, scrape the inside of your cheek and that of the other party or parties you'd like to have checked, and return it to the company. Later, you receive access to a closed account on the company's website, where you can read at your leisure about how well you supposedly fit together, genetically. The company's total manpower proves to be two women: the director, Joelle Apter, and the head of research, Tamara Brown.

Posted on August 2, 2011

Sugardaddy seekingarrangement HUFFINGTON POST – July 29 – Saddled with piles of student debt and a job-scarce, lackluster economy, current college students and recent graduates are selling themselves to pursue a diploma or pay down their loans. "Over the past few years, the number of college students using our site has exploded," says Brandon Wade, founder of SeekingArrangement.com. Of the site's ~800K members, Wade estimates that 35% are students. On one such site, EstablishedMen.com, Biderman estimates that 47% of its 1.3M members are women currently enrolled in college. And on ArrangementSeekers.com, he says 31% of its 387,000 members are female college students.

Grouper screenshot HUFFINGTON POST – July 9 – Grouper is a social service that gets you offline, and out meeting real people. Grouper, which is currently only available in New York City, matches groups of three girls with three boys, by looking at interests, ages and more. The service matches online information from your Facebook profile with a human matchmaker looking to get you talking to strangers. To get Groupered, users can go to the site and connect with Facebook to apply. Once they are connected, they answer three questions, with the same 140-character restriction on responses as Twitter. The user who signed up brings two friends to the meetup. Grouper charges $20 per person and picks the location of the meeting place, as well as providing the first round of drinks for free. Users pay online beforehand and list the times they'd be available to meet.
