Tinder Is Popular In London

Tinder logoSTANDARD.CO.UK – Sep 20 – Tinder is the fastest-growing free dating app. The app is close to the original Facebook concept, Face Mash, where Harvard students were presented with two people and had to choose the most attractive. Its British audience is growing by 25% each week. London has the highest percentage of single people in the UK. Around half the population 20 – 59 years old are single.

Dating Agencies For The Wealthy Are Booming

Gray&farrar logoSTANDARD.CO.UK – Sep 4 – A family-run matchmaking agency based in Mayfair, Gray & Farrar has clients in Brussels, Geneva, Paris, Monaco, New York and Dubai. Their business has quadrupled over the past three years. It now has ~1,750 members, split evenly between the sexes. The clients are “educated, cosmopolitan and accomplished people who meet people all the time but lack access to the right ones, who are genuinely committed to a long-term relationship”. Operating in a similar sphere is Seventy Thirty, whose offices are in Knightsbridge. Seventy Thirty’s membership fees start at £9,5K but climb to £50K. Seventy Thirty has a team of psychologists and relationship experts who matchmake members.

Mark Brooks: Should matchmakers even be in business now?  Most people would have predicted their demise with the rise of Internet dating.  Quite the opposite has happened.  Never before have so many people been open to the idea of spending money to get help.  More money = more help!  Right?  Whats your thoughts?

Cupid Looks Attractive To Match.com

Cupidplc logoSTANDARD.CO.UK – Aug 22 – The word on the street is that Cupid plc is being eyed up by Match.com. Cupid beefed up its own portfolio earlier this summer when it paid £2.9m for Assistance Genie Logiciel, a French dating firm. Cupid more than doubled its revenues in 2011, notching up £53.6M against £25.7M in 2010. Profit at the company was up from £4.2M to £7M.
