Noel Biderman Talks About Infidelity
TELEGRAPH.CO.UK – Apr 12 – Adultery is good for your marriage if you don’t get caught, says Noel Biderman, founder of Ashley Madison. Since launching in Canada on Valentine’s Day in 2002, it has attracted ~24M members in 37 countries, with South Korea launched last week. “Infidelity exists in every culture in the world,” said Mr Biderman. “In the lifetime of a relationship, ~70- 80% of men are going to be unfaithful at some point in their marriages. And the female side is incredibly on the rise – it’s well past 40%.”
Japan Funds Matchmaking Events To Boost Birth Rate
TELEGRAPH.CO.UK – Mar 20 – Japan’s birth rate is at its lowest since records began in 1899 and if current trends continue it will lose a third of its population in the next 50 years. Japanese Prime Minister has allocated an additional 3B yen (£17.7B) in this fiscal year’s budget for birthrate-boosting programmes. Local authorities are now able to apply for central government grants of up to 40M yen (£237K) for matchmaking events.
Tinder’s Trying To Empower Women
TELEGRAPH.CO.UK – Mar 15 – Tinder, the dating app that often comes across as a sex app, is trying to change its image to show it supports female empowerment. The app has teamed up with Amnesty International. The new Tinder ad shows images of a man being swiped to the left, and then has the message: “Not all women have the choices you do. You pick your partner. Many women aren’t given a choice.” The positive ad is a step in the right direction, but Tinder is still a long way from empowering women.
The Formula For Lasting Love
TELEGRAPH.CO.UK – Mar 12 – A study of 2K men and women, commissioned by MSN, claims to have found the mathematical formula for long-lasting relationships. 25% of both men and women believe their partner should have had four sexual partners before them. Men prioritise looks over intelligence and are twice as likely as women to believe that good sex is important for a happy, enduring relationship. The resulting formula can determine how long a potential or current relationship can be expected to last.

- Y: The number of years the two people knew each other before the relationship became serious

Secret Diamond Club Is Launching In UK
TELEGRAPH.CO.UK – Feb 14 - Secret Diamond Club is a dating site for wealthy men and beautiful women. It first launched in Denmark, and now it’s after the UK market. Women must submit three photos of themselves – face, full body, one of their choice – and then wait to hear if they are beautiful enough to be accepted. The most attractive pay the least for their membership (max £30 a year). Men pay ~£6K a year for a local membership and £60K a year for a global one and remain anonymous until they decide to make contact with a female member.
STD Dating Sites Are Growing Space
TELEGRAPH.CO.UK – Feb 14 – ~500K new cases of STIs were diagnosed in 2012 in the UK; ~90K were living with HIV and one in two people under 25 tested positive for Chlamydia. Studies show that one in four students catch a sexual infection during their first year of university. Positive Singles has 30K registered UK members, while Herpes Dating says it has 795K members. A lack of support available led Max to set up H-YPE! in 2006. Sites like H-YPE! enable people with herpes or HPV to find answers to their questions in a safe and secure environment. For some, they’ve even given the hope for a future of marriage and children that they thought lost when first diagnosed.
Cupid Named New CEO
TELEGRAPH.CO.UK – Nov 25 – Bill Dobbie, Cupid's CEO, is stepping down after a difficult year that has seen the share price collapse following an investigation into its practices. He will be replaced by Phil Gripton. Mr Dobbie, who retains a 21% stake in the company, will remain on the board as a non-executive director. Phil Gripton was previously the managing director of dating services. The company’s shares traded as highly as 200p at the start of this year; they have since fallen to 57.1p.

Ashley Madison Is Not Welcome In Singapore
TELEGRAPH.CO.UK – Oct 24 – The launch of Ashley Madison has sparked a public outcry in conservative Singapore. Singapore's minister for social and family development spoke out against the site, saying it was damaging to the institution of marriage. Ashley Madison has ~20M users worldwide and has recently been pushing into Asia with launches in India, Hong Kong and Japan. Singapore, a society known for its strict social mores, has also prompted a Facebook petition with ~13K supporters.
Investors Fall Out Of Love With Cupid.com
TELEGRAPH.CO.UK – Feb 8 – Investors have fallen out of love with Cupid.com after a BBC radio show started investigating the company as part of a programme about the online dating world. Cupid was forced to tell the stock market it was under scrutiny after shares crashed by as much as 13pc in morning trading. The radio programme will air on BBC Radio 5 Live on Sunday. Cupid would not disclose details of the investigation. However, it is thought to focus on the issue of scammers who set up fake profiles on dating sites, and ask whether online dating businesses do enough to protect their customers.
